My controller has full bars when I look at the battery life. it's not the headset cuz I tried using a standard Xbox headset and it still was cutting out. I can hear everyone else. My friends say my mic is still cutting in and out. When I send voice messages
my voice is clear and the mic doesn't cut in and out. This is really frustrating!!

Small update - having updated the controller wirelessly yesterday evening with no result, I have seen a few suggestions of updating via usb cable. I’ve now updated the controller again via usb and when I plug the headset in now I get 1-2 seconds of sound
before it cuts out the audio to my headset as well as the tv. I’m assuming it cuts out sound to the tv as the xbox sends it to the controller?

The xbox is also recognising my voice through the mic as my name comes up in party overlay.

One more thing I just found out that when my friend sends me a voice message he can hear it through my mic

I also have a set of detonators (cheers cockney) and have had no issues. Friends did say i was a little quiet when i first started using them but got the mic in a comfortable place and they said it was better. Easiest way to check is to send a voice message
to someone and listen to the play back see if your mic is picking up properly. I do agree the sound is amaizing
