    My Media Drives No Longer Connect


    Hoping someone can help me out. I was using an external USB drive on my Series X in both Retail and Dev mode since launch. Had it configured for media use. That is until last week when it was no longer being seen by the console.

    I tried the below with no luck. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    • restarted console, including full shutdown
    • tested the drive on multiple PCs where it works.
    • formatted the drive
    • reduced the volume size to under 2TB
    • tried a second known working drive with no luck
    • reset the Series X (keeping apps and games)
    • Tried different ports, cables, combinations of each, and a drive with external power supply

    • Disabled the power saving feature for external drives

      I thought I'd let the XBox make the partition so wiped it again and plugged it in. It prompts for the drives purpose and I select media each time. However, the prompt states that media drives should be "formatted on the PC." Proceeded any ways with no improvement, then formatted again with no improvement.

    The wonky workaround I've seen here and online of starting "report a problem" with tracing doesn't work either. That gets stuck at "Enabling Tracing" and I can never start it, even after waiting 10 minutes for it to load.

    External harddrive for media not recognised by Xbox one

    My PNY 128gb usb flash drive that was connected to my XBOX One when updated is no longer recognized by my TV's USB Media port either. It is still recognized by all my computers. This is saddening, luckily I have a 16gb Media drive that is still recognized
    by both.

    I've tried all types of formatting of the 128gb drive and nothing is working, kinda frustrating really!

    I’m having a similar problem on my S series. Media drive is suddenly not appearing in settings and no media available in player. The drive is working perfectly on my pc but isn’t reading on my Xbox. What’s weirder is that my media drive has a USB port on its front and if I insert a drive in there the Xbox will see that drive. So that means all connections and and wires are working it’s just not see my media drive.

    Any help would be great.

    ok so I just took the brand new WD 6TD my book external hard drive out of the box, connected it by the usb cord into the usb port on the console and for some reason the console recognized it as a media storage devise for music and pictures. It did not let
    me format the drive or choose to use it to store my saved games. I then connected the drive to my windows pc that is using windows 8.1 and formatted it and when I re-connected the drive to my xbox one console it still recognized it as a media drive. I have
    no idea why it is doing this.

    You said it yourseld. Media center is no longer supported. You might be able to transfer the pics to a Usb drive though.
