My headphones work but why won't my mic ?

Ok i have seriously tried every thing .. .ive bought multiple controllers....TONS of headphones . Some xbox and some knoxk off brand .. so heres the thing. One zecond the things will work yhen yhen siddenly they will stop... Or i can hear but not be heard.
I do not understand. Ivw tried so many things. Ppease help

How did you manage do use Kinect as mic while your headphones are connected to the controller? As soon as I plug in my headphones into the Stereo Headset Adapter my Kinect won't work as mic anymore... Strange thing is, this also happens if my headphones
don't have an integrated mic

Nope, I have found that the adapter won't work with this type of in-line mic. If you want to use those headphones with a mic, go here: v-moda.com/boompro-microphone. I bought this for my Beats studio and the mic works. It's another $30 but the quality
of the mic and cable are worth it in my opinion.

 

What brand of headsets are you trying? Have you gone to the settings menu to verify the controller is picking up the headset by accessing the audio menu?

 

In order to properly troubleshoot the issue, be aware of the following:

If you use headphones with a 3.5mm jack, you should know that there are two standards for that kind of headphone jack: "CTIA" and "OMTP", in which both the Ground contact and microphone contact are reversed.

So if you have an OMTP standard headset, the Xbox controller will listen on the ground contact, and the headset microphone will be talking to the controller's ground.

After you made sure your headset uses the proper pin layout, check if the issue is local, or network related.

In order to check that, open the messaging tab, and try to compose a new message.

Instead of typing, press the microphone symbol and record a voice message with your headset.

Are you able to listen to your recorded voice? If not, then you need to check if the controller or the headset are faulty. Or maybe you have a broken lead in the microphone cable, where the microphone only has intermittent contact.

If the local voice message recording worked, check your network settings that you have an Open NAT. And that your friends also have their NAT open. Otherwise that can lead to issues in party chat.
