my headphones cut out when i played all games on my xbox series s and would not play sound even when i resarted the console.

Hi William, thanks for reaching out. I’m Aileen, an independent advisor here to help you out. Since this is a public community forum, I don’t have access to your personal account or device details, but I can guide you through a few steps to help fix the sound issue you’re experiencing with your headphones on the Xbox Series S.

If your headset suddenly stops playing sound in all games, even after restarting your console, here’s what you can try:

Basic Checks to rule out hardware issues or game-related issues:

If you have another headset or controller available, try swapping them to rule out a hardware issue.

See if the sound problem happens only in games or across the entire system, including apps like Netflix or YouTube.

    Troubleshooting Steps:

    Reconnect your headset

Unplug and replug your wired headset securely.

If you’re using a wireless headset, turn it off and on again, then reconnect it through the Xbox settings.

    Check your audio settings

Go to Settings > General > Volume & audio output

Under "Headset audio," choose "Stereo uncompressed"

If your setup uses external speakers or HDMI, try adjusting "Speaker audio" settings between HDMI and Optical (if applicable)

    Power cycle your Xbox

Hold down the power button on the console for about 10 seconds to fully shut it off.

Wait a few moments, then turn it back on.

    Update your controller firmware

Connect your controller using a USB cable.

Go to Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories

Select your controller, then choose the three dots and check for firmware updates.

    For wireless headsets only:

If you’re using a wireless headset, make sure nothing is interfering with the signal (like other Bluetooth or Wi-Fi devices). You can also remove and re-pair the headset from Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories.

Try using the headset on a different device, like your phone or computer. If it works there, the issue is likely with the console settings or hardware.

Let me know what you find. I’ll be here if you need more help.

Xbox Series S audio cuts in and out and also crackles

I have the issue on my series s, Sound randomly cuts out then comes back on only whilst playing games. Tried all the different sound settings available to me which is stereo uncompressed, dolby digital, and dolby atmos for home theater! I don't use any headset at all so that rules that out. People mentioned changing to a different hdmi port which i did, tried using my old xbox one hdmi lead which was just the same. I'm sick of trying to fix it and just give up and went back to my xbox one s.
