I just wish they would have extended the check in time from 24 hrs to a something longer.
How about not having a check-in time at all?

Neither Origin or Steam, once set to offline mode, have any requirement for you to check in with the companies.

Microsoft killed their digital vision with a check-in that wasn't needed for it.

3. Not Again.

-

OP, It seems you have no clue what you are talking about, Again you start a thread, The exact same thing, except you want Microsoft to re-instate something that was not an original Policy. Really.........?

-

OP, please, sit back and think about what your saying. Look at every angle and not just your own. And stop making threads that are now dead and buried. They cannot bring that 24 Hour Check in (Again it was never Always Online, once again facts should be
used at all times) policy back. it would turn too many consoles into a brick for quite a few people.

Microsoft care only for sales. The more they keep hearing.."I'm not buying until they get rid of kinect" the more likely they will bring out an X1 without kinect. They did the whole turn around because people were in an uproar, there is no way they will
suddenly revert to the old policy and risk loosing cash from new buyers.

I am not familiar with either service. But what I believe is that the check in was for the family sharing, option that they were going to enable. Now I could be wrong but that is just how I see things being played out

More and more developers are producing games that are always online: Titanfall, The Devision, Destiny, The elder scrolls just to name a few. I am more than sure the anti-always online people will want to play at least one of these games. It just makes more
sense to have always online if this is the way that all the most highly anticipated games are going.

"Always online".

.

"Apparently, Microsoft doesn't see the Xbox One as a system intended for people who don't have broadband in the home at all. "Because every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection,
developers can create massive, persistent worlds that evolve even when you’re not playing," the company writes. Microsoft recommends a connection
of at least 1.5Mbps, or using mobile broadband "in areas where an Ethernet connection is not available."

While the broadband connection doesn't have to be "persistent" to use the Xbox One, Microsoft says the console is "designed to verify if system, application, or game updates are needed and to see if you have acquired new games, or resold,
traded in, or given your game to a friend." Your primary console can be offline for up to 24 hours without this online check-in, while a secondary console (i.e. one accessing your library/account at a friend's house) can only be offline for an hour at a time.

While gaming is not possible if these online check-in times are not met, you'll still be able to watch TV or DVD movies without a connection. In addition, "games that are designed to take advantage of the cloud may require a connection."

Source: Microsoft details Xbox One used games, “always online,” and privacy policies

.

Please show me ANYWHERE where Microsoft themselves actually stated "Always Online" was part of THEIR policy. It a feature that's at the discretion of the developer, not Microsoft.

.

The uproar was about the 24HR check-in and other "features" in the story I sourced.

.

Please, PLEASE... Stop with the "Always Online" dribble... That wasn't anything to do with ANY Microsoft policy.

.

I'm done with this now.

I don't care if Microsoft bring back their DRM policies because I'm always online, but if Microsoft do bring back their old policies will it hurt sales?. Microsoft changed their policies for a reason.
Personally I'd love them to bring back the DRM but that's just me lol

Like you said though, they changed their minds for a reason and I don't think from then until today all the people that didn't want DRM have all of a sudden changed their minds.

I can't see it coming back anytime soon, well not in the way it was originally planned.

14. *sigh*

.

While I can understand your position, you do realize the way you're going about it means no one's going to take you seriously, right?

.

There's a proper way to vent your frustration, and doing so with a ranting, non-coherent way isn't it.

.

I, too, would love a digital only format, but things are going to have to change.

.

FIRST AND FOREMOST: We need more space. 500GB will be eaten up quickly with these new game file sizes.

.

Secondly, we absolutely, positively must be able to manage our storage. As it stands, there's no way to even see how much space is available, and this is, without doubt, the DUMBEST thing I've ever seen Microsoft do. Space management should never be hidden
from users.

.

Thirdly, game prices must be dropped in digital only format. There's no shipping, retail space, or packaging in a digital world, so a game's price must be dropped to at least $15 from retail. Until this happens, I won't be buying new games at $60 in a digital-only
format UNLESS all DLC (including avatar items) is included with the cost.

.

Until these requests are available, it seems I'll be forced to stick with plastic coasters for a while longer. My GOAL is for MICROSOFT to reinstate the ALWAYS ONLINE POLICY ! :(

as I said though, the 24 hour check-in wasn't needed for what Microsoft wanted family share included. The possibility to lock down to a certain number of people exists without one.

Perhaps the best example I can think of on the PC is if you buy Mass Effect 1 on disc.

There you have a one time activation on your code. Then you are free to game offline should you wish. You can then activate the game on four more PCs,,using the same code. If you tried to install on a 6th PC you would need to deactivate a previous install.

So you can install the game five times, using one code, all people can be online at the same time if they wished. Family share in action. Plus while they can game offline all they wanted, to deactivate an install to use on another PC, then they'd have to be
online.

So there we have a 'family share' DRM that works without a regular check in time but can't be abused.

EA did that by creating a unique hardware ID for each computer. It'd be even easier on the One because they already have a unique console ID.

I'm not a fan of DRM but if you market it right, showing a distinct advantage to it, then people will if not support it outright then tolerate it for that advantage.

The 24 hour check in wasn't needed for what Microsoft wanted.
