    My games thoughts

Hello Windows and Xbox peeps, how is it going ? As you know, I have already talked about Windows xp and 7 games as my first thread there https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...thoughts/41b6f43a-01fa-450a-a43a-a8ce72c6d6c0 . Who remembers playing 3d pinball space cadet on windows xp pc ? For sure, everyone does and it works well on my Windows 10 pc and it's not surprising that it didn't disappear after various updates though it's more likely to happen to Windows 7 games. Either way, they deserve to come back with remastered graphics and daily challenges like ms solitaire collection on Windows 11 ms store and mobile devices as well, so I look forward to having them on my phone one day since I missed those old times.

Okay, speaking of MS-DOS games, these were of best part of my childhood memories and even teenage. Remember Doom, Prince of Persia, Dangerous Dave and others ? I remember playing some of them by the time I had Windows xp on my pc as well as Windows 7, which was the last operating system to be compatible to the 80s/90s games but as of Windows 8, it became a game-changer to have those games either too slow or no longer working, shame that such amusing games are no more.

The temporary solutions to make them work properly are by either turning on the compatibility mode or having ds-box or something like that to play, running a virtual machine is a great method too. Correct me if I were wrong, I bet DirectX has something to do with the compatibility issues. The newer the version, the less likely the old games will work until they're none, so why not bring them back in ms store Windows 11 at least ? It's not a big deal to have them all back but again I need them for nostalgia recap purposes, Bethesda has Doom games already.

Weirdly enough, Atari 8-bit games work on Windows 10 without any problems, even Windows 8.1 can handle them, how curious ! I don't know what about 16-bit games since I play low-graphics games, some of them work while others don't. After testing Chip's challenge, blackjack, golf and others, none of them work on Windows 10 at all though they worked well on Windows 7, I don't know what about Windows 8.1 but what a shame ! They were really entertaining but I don't want to say so long to them. However, 24 game pack featuring maze, memory match etc work fine. I didn't know that they belonged to Windows 95 but I first got to know them while playing on my aunt's laptop running Windows 8.1. 8-bit games working while the majority not anymore alongside 16-bit games ? No way, Microsoft, it was mean of you to spoil the golden era entertainment, now I want my nostalgia back.

Alright, that's not the end of my discussion yet, there's one more thing which has been bugging me for years even after ms store has became a thing. Those games can be entertaining, educational or anything else but what's more intimidating is difficulty in downloading them outside ms store. If I wanted to download a game, then it might take minutes to hours looking for a reliable webpage, also it might cost my sanity to make for it even my life, don't you think ? I don't remember having hard time downloading lovely games but nowadays, it's like I can barely download anything or whatever until I give up though this doesn't happen on Mac and Linux. And before you can say that's too old, inappropriate or something else, it has nothing to do with age restrictions that much and every time I try to do this, there are various possible outcomes.

    (1) It may fail to download even if I clicked download or not show up at all.

    (2) I might get stuck at a loop of scams and extensions, you know not letting me download any games at all.

    (3) It might download but I often end up getting a virus instead, so this happens at about 60% chance.

    (4) It might successfully download but be a 60-minute time trial. The trial may be worth it but after it ends, it will ask me to purchase for the full version.

    (5) Like 4 but this time demo version aka short version. After playing one level, it will ask me to buy the full version too.

    (6) It might successfully download the full version but there's a chance it will stop working for no good reason, what a waste of time !

    (7) Like 6 but if it's working, then I'm good to go. This result might be rare but still possible to achieve it after struggling for a long time.

    (8) Like 7 but it might not be playable offline and with ads such as ms solitaire collection unlike Windows xp and 7 versions. Want a noticeable example ? Visit freeridegames dot com to check out (Note: Attempting to put the dot symbol will trigger the link to be blue).

It would be my only hope to get full version of those games for free in case I couldn't find any alternative webpages yet I have to subscribe monthly to play them offline and get rid of the ads otherwise they keep popping up every 10 minutes and they interrupt my gameplay too much, not to mention that the said game might not pause on its own forcing me to lose and hence wasting my effort. The game might refuse to open up or download for some reasons in such cases so what else to say ?

Mediafire should be the only last resort when appropriate. Myplaycity dot com is an excellent example of getting free games with great experience though the webpage will show up once you exit a game. It used to have more than 200 games but sadly, I can barely get most of them anymore, not sure why but then.

    (9) After downloading the game successfully and working, it's normal to start with zero progress and after playing for a while, it should save my progress but an unexpected glitch may prevent me from going further for some reasons forcing me to start over every time I close the said game and hence wasting a lot of time. It doesn't happen to any games that much but it's noticeable in online games after several weeks of not playing them due to technical problems. It's like 404 save progress not found haha.

    (10) Like 9 but here's the weirdest glitch of all. After getting the game, it's supposed to start from scratch but it doesn't even though I didn't play it at all. It starts with a random progress and I can play it normally but once I exit then play again, it will take me to that loop instead, better than starting over but still seems kinda irritating because there's no way to get over it. Believe me, I have experienced it with certain simple games for unknown reasons and it may less likely to happen to high-graphics games. It's like 502 bad loopway, get the pun ? I bet it has something to do with the download source itself and it's possible to compare the results between each webpage, I tested Aladdin Nasira's Revenge and some other games and I got that weird glitch for some reasons.

I had tested nearly all of them by the time I had Windows 7 on my pc, the same happens to Windows 10 so don't hesitate to let me know the reason behind those. Now that I have mentioned, why not ask Microsoft to make every game available on ms store if possible ? If so, then it might facilitate the process and help me overcome that hurdle and it might be worth downloading them easily to overcome this again and again. The games themselves aren't that threatening to my pc but those malicious pop-ups ruin everything, so I can't get over them at all costs and there's nowhere safe to get those games other than ms store today.

Let me tell you that pc games are still more underrated than phone games due to lack of micro transactions and something else though there are worthy phone games including Microsoft games. My favourite pc games are those with low graphics, appealing background, story and kid-friendly contents usually rated as 3+ or everyone. Here are my favourite games according to the categories with some examples below:

    (1) Puzzle games:

From jigsaw puzzle to mahjong, they relax my mind and help me flex it.

    (2) Time management games:

Diner dash is an excellent example of my favourite time management game, it has various sequels featuring Flo as the leading character and her friends. I'm sure you guys have played those before, the storyline looks awesome even Avenue Flo 1 & 2 are amazing, I wonder there's no 3rd sequel though it deserves it like every game. Not only do I like Diner dash games, but I also like Burger island 1 & 2, Cake mania all sequels and so on. I even like shopping games, I didn't use to like going shopping but nowadays I do especially with the help of those games. They might inspire me to become a marketing manager one day but shopping is enough for me and that's not my final decision yet before I can graduate from the university, 2 more years to go.

    (3) Adventure games:

2d or 3d, it doesn't matter. I remember playing a 2d Crash Bandicoot game on my Windows xp pc long time ago, Bud Redhead was an enjoyable game though I played the demo version only. At least, I liked the storyline, I hope I will get the full version to keep the adventure on and save the day. I played lots of adventure games for sure, please note that adventure games might be of a mixed category with puzzle or role-playing etc.

    (4) Board games:

As entertaining as mental flexibility, sure I like snakes vs ladders, normal and Chinese checkers, backgammon and others. I missed those old times when I could play them with my family, nowadays I can't stop sticking to my phone all time even during the lockdown.

    (5) Barbie or any girly games:

Many girls including me played Barbie games as young kids, I was addicted to those pretty games during windows xp and 7 moments from fashion style to her magical house, from magical hairstyle to her make-up and so on. Sadly, the fun didn't last any longer when I ran windows 10 on my pc and even after downloading one of them, it no longer works, big oof. I need them on ms store, Microsoft. Freemium or premium, it's okay so please let me restore the harmony either way. While archive dot org exists, the size is too large as if I were attempting to download an operating system instead, notice that the size may bypass 5 gigabytes so find out more on your own.

    (6) Card games:

I may not be pro at card games but they're still worth the fun. I love Hoyle card games 2005 version, I enjoy playing old maid, go fish, crazy eights and solitaire games. It got me to know tripeaks also known as tower 3 by default because of 3 peaks, I would also play clock, spider, sum 11, take 2 (sequence vs pair) and others so it would be great if Microsoft added more solitaire games as side games. They don't have to show up in the daily challenges and events due to difficulty in playing some of them but at least worth the addition.

    (7) Racing games:

I may not be a big fan of racing games but I still enjoy playing them. The type of transportation doesn't matter to me a lot, it could be cars or planes etc, also single player or multiplayer is fine. I would play one of need of speed games on my uncle's old pc running Windows xp long time ago and I enjoyed the graphics and the soundtracks. I occasionally play racing arcade games wherever I go especially motorcycle race, I also enjoy watching real-life racing but don't compare them to driving cars in real life, it feels stressful at a glance even after learning it depending on the circumstances.

    (8) Role-playing games:

I don't play rpg games that much sometimes, I enjoy playing them. Tom & Jerry in the fists of fury is a great example of it, simple but still amusing and nostalgic today. Back when rpg games were f2p friendly and I would play to unlock characters but nowadays some are about p2w favor to unlock certain items and characters but nothing is impossible to f2p players such as genshin impact, honkai impact 3, lords mobile and others. Who can forget penguin arena game with adorable graphics ? There you go https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-1g6Axe8zM&t=248s and not to be confused with penguin club (rip).

    (9) 8-bit and 16-bit games:

I put the duo at once because why not ? They're like forgotten console video games from the 80s and 90s.

Speaking of 8-bit games, I'm in love with Atari video games and they really deserve a remake for phones and ms store whenever it's possible otherwise use any emulators to enjoy the experience. I have already mentioned MS-DOS games and I really need their return in ms store right now, nostalgia shouldn't be abandoned for sure.

Speaking of 16-bit games, from Sonic the hedgehog to whatever, they deserve to come out in ms store once again and hey, some Sonic games which were playable on phones with remastered graphics are now playable on PCs, so enjoy the experience.

    (10) Other games:

From 1 to 9 may be applied to phone version too but not all of them. There are endless-running games like subway surfers, jetpack joyride and others. Out of all, cookie run ovenbreak is one of my favourite phone games and I have been playing it for 4 years so I hope it will be available in ms store one day, it might save me from storage shortage despite being a 2d game. The same applies to cookie run kingdom (rpg) to overcome this and because there's no other way to free up more space, check out that discord server for more information. I would play angry birds, cut the rope and other great games but not anymore. At least, there are some decent phone games to enjoy playing despite having lots of ads and in-game purchases. I forgot to mention online games, I was addicted to them as a child until Adobe Flash Player is no more, so long to that great app, it was a pleasure knowing it. Phew, there are various alternatives to Adobe flash player though Flipline Studio will keep making phone games instead of online games from Papa's pizzeria to Papa's burgeria and so on. Also, I love arcade games especially the Japanese ones, they're sorta intriguing. Chicken invaders games are love, what about you, poggers ?

    TL;DR (too long, don't read)

Sorry for such a long detailed thread, I just wanted to let Microsoft bring those appealing games back and not so leave them in the dust in ms store so that I don't have hard time getting them. If only my pc had high-end specs or it was new, I would enjoy playing 3d games a lot though 2d games are fair enough to me.

Thanks for your understanding and have a nice day.

PS: Not sure which category to select, more than one might fit either way.

    :)

    My games impressions and thoughts

    Hi,

    It's not all about DirectX.

    1. 64-bit Windows 10 no longer supports 16-bit applications.
    2. Some older software depends on old Windows libraries that are no longer included with Windows 10.
    3. Since Windows XP, all versions of Windows no longer run on top of DOS.
    4. Older games rely on non-existent DRM (digital rights management) solutions that stop programs from booting.
These 'Old Atari games' you mentioned running on Windows 10 would be running on an emulator. The emulator will be a Windows 64-bit application, it doesn't really matter how old the software the emulator can run, that's the whole point of the emulator in the first place.

The games industry is over 40 years old, some publishers either no longer exist or their libraries or IP's (intellectual properties) are owned by other organisations now. This is the one of the biggest reasons why old games disappear and are no longer available to buy, unless second hand. It's not a simple process of just adding thousands of games from decades ago to Windows.
Thanks for your explanation, I can get that old games no longer work on Windows 10 without emulator, they don't have be remade but this is just a case. Speaking of Windows games, they deserve to be available on ms store and phones too, pinball, chess titans and purble place deserve a spotlight on my phone one day. I may want to start a new beginning and try Halo, Call of Duty and other 3d games if possible but I doubt I will promise anything. I just wanted Microsoft to add them on ms store when appropriate due to difficulty in downloading the games nowadays whatever the webpage I visit.

That quote above took for me nearly 2 or 3 hours to write it and I made sure to save it on my Samsung notes so that my effort doesn't go to waste. I would like to add some things too, I like coloring games and apps which are worth the change and flexing my mind. Also, I forgot to tell you that hidden object is one of my favourite game categories and I have played a countless games from Great Secrets of Da Vinci to La Jangada, from Robinson Crusoe to Curse of the Opera and so on with or without being from G5 games. There might be some rip-offs but they're less noticeable there unlike other games even match 3 games but at least, they have unique stories usually about horror or something else, don't you think ?

Progressbar is an underrated phone game I have ever played not only because it looks like any realistic operating systems, but also there's Clippy and Rover. Glad that Clippy is coming back as an emoji and background in Windows 11, what about Rover the search dog from Windows xp and office 1997 characters ? They deserve to come back though I didn't get the chance to know them. At least, have them as emojis or backgrounds to recall the nostalgia once again like Clippy. I like ninja cat, unicorn and dinosaur of Windows 10 insider preview builds but I still missed those old stuffs including Rover.

Speaking of my expectations regarding Windows 35th anniversary, https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-35th-anniversary/1ceda32a-29f8-46a4-86a8-6623440eadf1 Time sure flies by and sooner or later, we will celebrate Windows 36th anniversary meanwhile Windows xp 20th anniversary is celebrated in some regions including Australia according to the manufacturing release before RTM version, so long Windows xp, it will still be my 2nd favourite operating system in my heart and those backgrounds deserve a remake especially bliss (props to Charles O'Rear).

I have a great idea: Why not make Windows xp bundle as card skins in ms solitaire collection ? I don't want the cosmetics to be locked behind a paywall, why not let me unlock the skins once I reach level 100 or 200 at least ? The retro skin exists but it's limited to premium users and I really need them as an f2p player or else levelling up seems to be just a chore without anything else not to undermine my effort, how about such rare achievements to feel like I'm an adept or better than usual ? Check out more anticipations here https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...for-2021/64ec6686-ea7e-4771-a2a0-19578d690a4a

Oh wait, it's September 2021 already and Windows 11 is coming soon. Looks like I won't be able to get a laptop right now until December 2021 or January 2022 for some reasons while my year 3 (business) college will be starting from 9 October so I have no other choice but fix my pc once again and truly for promise. That would require its own thread to explain further details but here's a long story short, my pc can boot up normally but it doesn't run long enough due to black screen though I paid more than 500 LE for that but to no avail but that's my only hope to catch up with the online lectures until it's time to get a new laptop while it was meant to be my precious gift after passing year 2 college but no problem, hut hut.

Sorry for the nonsense, I had a countless thoughts in my mind and my dreams as well, so I hope they will come true. One last thing as a friendly reminder, it doesn't have to be too easy to get the games but without pop-ups and with my ms account, I can enter my age to be eligible to play certain games and help filter inappropriate games and apps even when it comes to old games for good until it's eligibility time from 7 to 13, from 16 to 20 and up. Maybe have a free trial before I can purchase the full version experience and so on, thank you for my ted talk once again.

    My thoughts.

Just thought id input.... just recently i got told by members of the Royal anglians that battlefield 3 is much more realistic in flow than COD anyday, apparently COD is far from real as far as game flow goes :)

    My thoughts.

The OP put forth his non fanboy opinions, which I happen to agree with. I liked the beta, but not enough to tear me away from the nonstop, absurd, and just plain silly action of the COD games. COD is more balls to the wall while the action of BF unfolds
more deliberately. Personally, I would only play BF3 on a PC. I think that's the way to go with it. It definitely will be better than MW3, PC wise.
