My gamertag can be signed in with two different MS accounts.

I wanted to change my email but the one I wanted to use was associated with another gamertag. I created a dummy email to use for "Gamertag A". I was successful in changing the Microsoft account. Now my dummy email is associated with "Gamertag A" but when
I try to apply the email that I freed up to "Gamertag B" it says that the Microsoft account is associated with a different gamertag and to use a different Microsoft account. Wierd thing is I can sign into this gamertag I'm posting with both email accounts,
so for some reason Xbox Live is associating two emails with this gamertag. How the heck do I free up the gamertag I want to use?

I'm pretty sure you can play in two different accounts on MW3. I've done plenty of times before at my cousin's house. I just recovered my gamertag and signed in. It's possible.

Each gamertag can only be associated with one MS account.

If you want to use your current MS account with your new tag, the old tag will need be associated with a new MS account. -

Once the old tag is associated to a new MS account, you can use your MS account on your new tag.

Any achievements earned/purchased made under the original tag will remain tied/licensed to the original tag.

since you can login with both microsoft accounts to the same xbox live account it seems that something went wrong with the switch.

You could try deleting cache and cookies etc for the browser to make sure it isn't cache related.

Clearing the cache on the console and restarting it before trying to switch the account again could help as well.

if you still experience the same issue afterwards I advise to contact Xbox Support for this issue, since they might be able to investigate what exactly happened and went wrong.
