My friend is unable to play Minecraft because his account got locked

Hey there,
I'm asking for support on behalf of my friend. Here is what he had to say:

> So I recently wanted to buy Minecraft(java edition). I saw that you now need a Microsoft Account. I didn't have one, so I created it and used it to buy Minecraft. I was able to enjoy the game for about 2 days, when suddenly it gave me a prompt to sign in. I entered my username and password, but it said that my account had been locked due to "suspicious activity".

>It only accepts phone verification. I do not have a mobile phone, just a landline. I am currently unable to play minecraft at all.
>I reset the password using my recovery email(my friend's), but it didn't help.

He was unable to ask the question himself because he's locked out of his Microsoft account and he doesn't want to create another one.
To me this seems a bit ridiculous that Microsoft took away his ability to play a game that he bought because they think he's a robot. I get that it might have been suspicious because he only used the account for one thing(buying Minecraft), and this is a new problem due to the account migration.
Microsoft, please let my friend play Minecraft.

My advice would be, if you have a phone, use that number as it is allowed...all it needs is to be able to receive a code via text message:

"You can use any phone number that can receive text messages; it doesn’t need to be associated with your account."

"This means you could use a friend or work colleague's phone without compromising your account security."

Unable to respond to post because they are locked. That's ok cause I canceled my account because of the Dashboard changes.

These are children enrolled/managed by my parent account. Their tablets are setup to use their Microsoft account in Minecraft but are unable to add friends.
