My friend gifted me a game but it says I'm in the wrong region.

You wont be able to use that code. The gifting process requires both people need to be in the same region. You wont be able to change your console region to get around this as it detects your IP address is outside of the US.I would suggest your friend
to contact support and request a refund of the gifted Item

I would suggest referring your friend to the
Xbox Refund Webform so he can request a refund.

Once he receives his refund, it'd probably be best for him just to send your the currency to make the purchase from your

region / location.

Game gifting feature is unfortunatly region specific. Both the giver and receiver needs to be in the same region for it to work.

As suggested by the others your friend will have to do a refund on the game he purchased for you.
