My external HDD turn on and off constantly when Xbox is in standby

My drive is Seagate HX-M201TCB 2TB drive. When I shut down Xbox in standby mode the drive constantly turns on and off all the time. Can you help with a solution?

I recently bought a 4TB WD My Book to use as my external drive. The problem I'm having is when I put my XB1 into standby the drive will constantly spin up, stop, spin up, stop, etc for a long while until it finally goes to sleep. If I turn the XB1 completely off the drive turns off as it should. I've got the "turn off storage when xbox is off" setting checked so I don't understand what the deal is. I'm worried that this will shorten the lifespan of the drive because of all the constant cycling on and off. Has anyone with an external powered HDD encountered this issue?

It works. When I unselected the checkbox next to “When Xbox is off, turn off storage.” the drives is always on but after some times it stops spinning and it is ok. I supposed that different drives have different power management.

Is there enough ventilation around the Xbox, just incase it might be overheating even in standby(not likely though),

There's also a chance its your external HDD or internal HDD having problems.

Have you tried turning the instant on off causing the Xbox to be 100% off? unfortunately this will cause the xbox to take a bit longer to turn on

My external HDD is doing this wether the option is checked or not, but only while my Xbox is in standby mode. The only way it remains off is if my Xbox is completely powered down.

I have the same issue with my WD. It stays on when my Xbox1 is in standby. I've been informed by WD that the drive will enter it's own state of standby and it'll be fine. It still bugs me however that it's on when my Xbox is in standby/instant on but I guess
it's either that or pull the USB every time I turn off my Xbox.

I'd be inclined to contact Seagate and ask them if it's sapping the life of the drive being constantly on.
