Problems switching email address on account

So I have a main account I use with a gamer profile on xbox that uses a hotmail.com email address to log into and send emails to.

However this is old and my main email address is now a googlemail.com. I would like to switch the hotmail account to use the googlemail address, but it wont let me because I had also previously set up another xbox/microsoft account on the googlemail address
even though it has now been deleted. I do not want a new account or gametag/profile, I just want my current account and profile and data to use the googlemail rather than hotmail for log ins and emails.

Even though I closed the account linked to googlemail so it is free to be used on the hotmail, the system still says that it has already been taken.

Can anyone help ?

Cant add a new email

Just coming back to xbox and i want to change my email adress i use to log in, its on my mums old account and im trying to transfer it to mine now, i tried and i alreadt had my current account linked to an xbox account so i removed it from that, i now tried
to add my main xbox account on the new email and it still says the email is already use, it isnt in use anymore as i just removed it, does it take time to realise that it has been removed or can i never add the email as it DID have an account on it? hope this
makes sense.

Good night for this situation go to xbox.com account settings to changes in youre email and fixed.

That's most likely because the email is attached to another tag. You'll need to unlink that gamertag and then link it to your current tag.

If your current email is an MS address (like Hotmail, MSN, Outlook) it will already have a GT connected to it regardless of whether or not you knowingly created it. You can add the email address to your main GT by adding it as an alias.

I've got the exact same issue.

Problem is that my main account uses an old email adress (hotmail) which isn't in use anymore. As my main email adress is used by a Windows 10 generated Xbox account my question is wether it's possible to delete this account, so my main Xbox account can
use my main email adress.

Is this a possibility and if yes, how do I fix it?

You don't need to delete the account. Simply log in to
https://account.microsoft.com and change the email to the one you want to use. You'll want to make sure you do this with the main email you want to use first. This will free up that email for you then you can use that email for your main account. The
change will take place immediately for you.
