My Elite series 2 controller Start button is acting up

My Elite series 2 controller has a problem where it thinks it start button(a.k.a guide button)is be held. The controller itself I can physically press the button and it will feel like it registered so it’s not sticky. I will open my console (Xbox one s) and the controller will immediately start holding the button even though I didn’t press anything yet. I tried using a different console same thing, Using a PC still. The thing is it fixes itself back up after I leave it for a day or two. Then after a couple hours of gameplay repeat the issue. I sent it to a Controller repair store and claimed to fix after I payed $80 and not even a month later same thing. I don’t have a warranty and i can’t pay for $80-90 in repair. Btw I tried every reset advice and none worked. The only thing that worked for me is just plugging off the console a day then booting it back and it’s starts letting go of the start button and work normally. Please I need any type of help and any type of cheap option under $50 or so.

May I ask if the controller was sent to Microsoft for repairs or to a 3rd party repair company? I would like to recommend that you check your warranty status by clicking the following link Request an Xbox controller replacement | Xbox Support and once you have verified device registration and warranty status I would then request a service request by clicking this link Getting your Xbox device serviced | Xbox Support and follow the instructions for "Submit a service order request" instructions.

You can send the controller to Microsoft but there is a cost when the controller is out of warranty. I think you should talk to the store that took the controller the first time, they should offer a longer warranty or maybe do the job correctly because the controller has experienced the same problem with less than 1 month of use or at least make the second attempt of repair and charge you cheaper for it.

I checked it’s warranty earlier and it’s expired and also I had it fixed by a third party company.

I'm sorry to here that sadly I had my elite series 2 controller do the same thing, it started with the x button and then the bumpers, I noticed stick drift of both the sticks, sadly when I went to the store to exchange it for another one they had no
elite series 2 controllers in stock, I switched to the Razer wolverine ultimate edition and so far its a great controller

One of our Support team, mentioned a solution that is easy and fast to do. May we know if anyone from here have tried to do remapping their Controller's button? Now, this advance Controller offers exclusive option to create profile to customize button mapping that you can do using Xbox Accessories app. Here are steps on how to create a controller profile:

Using your Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, open the Xbox Accessories app.
Scroll to the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, then select Configure.
Select New profile, give your profile a name, then configure your changes. For example, if you reassign D-pad down  on the face of the controller to the Y button , then the D-pad down  will act as the Y button  going forward.
When you’re done, press the B button  for the changes to take effect.

Create multiple profiles in the app and switch between them using the built-in Profile button.

Open the Xbox Accessories app, scroll to the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, then select Configure.
In Profiles, select a controller profile you’ve created or create a new one.
Choose a slot.

You can assign a slot for up to three profiles. Press the Profile button on the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller 2 to switch between them. When no bars appear lit below the Profile button, the controller is using the default button mapping.

Assign Shift key button:

Assign buttons to act as shortcuts for system actions like “Record that” and “Take screenshot.” When you select a button to remap, choose Primary or Shift, go to the Action tab, then choose an action from the list. When you’re done, press the B button  for the changes to take effect.

Note System actions are currently not available on Windows 10.
