My disappointment with my Xbox One system.

I'd like to preface this message by saying that I've always been a huge Xbox and Microsoft fan. The first Xbox was one of the first consoles I owned and was my first experience in online gaming. Since then, I have purchased each subsequent Xbox in addition
to maintaining my Xbox Live account for close to 10 years now.

A couple weeks ago, my disc drive on my Xbox One system began to grind and became unable to read discs a majority of the time. I kept putting off sending it in because I wanted to have it over Thanksgiving and the holidays, but as it began to damage my discs
I realized it was necessary that I send it in. I processed an order request yesterday and planned to send it in later today. Last night, I went to play a couple more games before I sent it in only to discover that now my Kinect is unresponsive and is also
broken, and will be requiring service. For one thing to break is already bad enough, but for two things to break around the same time in a system that is less than a year old is unacceptable.

The reason I wanted to keep my system during Thanksgiving and the reason this upsets me is that I planned to play it with my brother. My brother lives in a different city and I hardly get to see him anymore, but he will be home for a day or two at Thanksgiving.
When we were young, we used to stay up together and play Halo: CE and Halo 2 campaigns together on the same screen and had tons of fun doing so. This was one of the few things we could do together that didn't lead to us fighting and allowed some bonding time.
I purchased Halo: Master Chief Collection last week in anticipation of being able to relive those campaign memories with him next week during Thanksgiving break. The matchmaking and online problems didn't bother me as the campaign was working fine and we would
be able to play it again. Instead, I will now be without my system next week. I am still happy I am fortunate enough to spend the time with family, but I can't express enough how disappointed I am with Microsoft that this opportunity to relive childhood memories
with my brother is no longer possible. It might seem trivial, but it is very frustrating and not something I expect to have to deal with less than a year after spending $500 on the system. Additionally, I am not thrilled that I will be paying for several weeks
to a month of Xbox Live that I will be unable to use.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to lodge this complaint or air my frustrations, but I don't know where else is more appropriate. I am extremely disappointed in Microsoft and have lost some respect for a company I have supported for well over a decade.
    I expected much better.

    :)

Xbox One Will Not Function Without Kinect Attached

If the Kinect is required to use the Xbox One. That is not only a disappointment, but a deal breaker. I will not tolerate internet connected camera's and microphones in my entertainment system. You can keep your new gaming system xbox, I'll have nothing
    to do with it.

Hi Gamex0ver! I'm sorry to hear about this, and can completely understand your disappointment. While sending your console in for repair/exchange does sound like it's going to be your only option, let me ask, have you heard of Advanced Exchange? If so, is
that something you would be able to do? If not, the way it works is, you contact Xbox Support and ask for an advanced exchange. They will take your credit card number (I recommend this instead of a debit card, and I'll explain why) and put a "temporary hold"
on the price of the console, and ship you a replacement IMMEDIATELY. This should mean you would have your console in time for the holidays.

Then, when you receive the replacement, you ship the bad one back to them, and when they receive your old damaged console, they remove the hold on the money on your Credit Card. A lot of people balk at this idea, thinking they're "paying money" to get a
broken console fixed. Technically, they never charge you the money, UNLESS you fail to return the bad console. This is how they protect themselves from people trying to get a second system and never ship back the first.

The reason I strongly recommend using a credit card vs. a debit card is, your debit card ties to your bank account. When they place the $350 hold (I think that's what it is now) on your account, if you've used your debit card, that will decrease your available
checking by $350 as a "pending charge," which is basically like spending the $350 and getting it refunded later, since you can't use that $350 of your own money until MS receives your broken console back. By using a Credit Card instead, they're just placing
a temporary hold on $350 of CREDIT, not your actual money, so it doesn't crimp your bank account.

I know this isn't a perfect solution, but I can identify with wanting to spend quality time with family, and was thinking this might be a way to help you get what you want. Let me know!

When I was requesting servicing of my console and Kinect, it said that my repair was not eligible for Advanced Exchange.

Ugh... I'm sorry. I didn't know they had specific repairs for which they wouldn't allow advanced exchange....

  7. Hey Gamex0ver! -- the Advanced Exchange option is no longer showing in MyService.xbox.com -- only Xbox Support (phone as they will be getting the credit card number) will be able to process that for you. As far as I know, Advanced Exchange is available in
US, Canada and UK. I hope this helps.

    Disappointed in my Xbox One

Hey JesusDrivesAnM3! I am sorry to hear about the issues you've been seeing! Because its multiple issues that have occurred for a long time, I would suggest sending the console in for repair to have it fully assessed. Otherwise, Is the console plugged directly
in to a wall outlet or is it plugged in to a powerstrip of some kind? Do you get an error message or code when trying to connect to the network with a wired connection? Post back and let us know!
