My Day by Day Evaluation of the X1

I have two X Box One consoles; one to instant on and the other in energy saver. The one in instant on has to be restarted every so often to run smooth. The more updates (Games and system.) or the more I jump from app to game to app...the more often it needs
to be restarted; nature of the beast I guess. Seeing as you have a new console, I would imagine a lot of updates and "playing around" is going on, which is why your console is acting funky.

    My advice...

    1. Don't use instant on for a smoother experience. The boot up time will be longer and you will have to take updates on the fly, though in my almost two year experience it will be less problematic.

    2. If you do use instant on. Go to settings and restart every two weeks whether you seem to be having problems or not. Since yours is new the necessity of restarting might need to be more frequent.

    3. Let games download completely before playing them. If you are installing from a disc, delay any updates until the disc fully installs.

    4. Backward compatible discs do not install, it just triggers the emulation download to begin. Once again, wait until fully installed and don't believe the "Ready To Play"; only time I've ever had problems installing was because of trying to play before
    fully installed.

    5. Microsoft only recommends the charge and play or disposable batteries; rechargeable are not recommended. I use 1400Mah Duracell and when the batteries get low (The charge indicator is fairly useless with rechargeable.) the controllers flake out; not
enough for "me" to stop using them however.

I've had the one console since launch (Set it up December 27th after Christmas.) and the other for about 5 to 6 months. The original has been in the preview since it began and the other shortly after receiving it with very minimal problems.

Hope you enjoy your new toy, J.R.

  2. I gave D33dle's post a like, it's what I'd advise... almost verbatim. Although I have to say, I did read in another thread that he doesn't like Gears of War and I'm still a bit shocked, so... I liked it with just a little less emphasis than I would have
    before. LOL

Anyone who counts the number of days they've had their Xbox 1 console, is a.... I won't even say it.

I enjoy being able to send and listen to this XBL Feature called VOICE MESSAGING and you can do it between Xbox 360 and Xbox 1 too. I enjoy being able to personalize my dashboard background, not put up with a black background where the OS didn't let you
to change it. I enjoy having that Windows 10 UI on Xbox 1 now, too, no longer have to put up with that slow Windows 8 hunk UI. I enjoy playing Forza 6 and Halo 5 and Minecraft natively on... did people say Xbox 1 cant play games natively at 1080p 60fps?....
rub that in their faces. I enjoy playing Xbox console exclusives Halo Forza Screamride Zoo Tycoon. I enjoy the Xbox 1 Kinect and the things you can do with it, including VOICE COMMANDS. And I enjoy how Microsoft acquired Skype and Minecraft.

  7. Lol Where did I say you were lying about sign in issues? I Simply implied that you created a post primarily to nit pick every little thing you may not love about the Xbox one.

Please do not use your Rise of the Tombraider code on the 360. I've seen the comparison vids and you will regret it. Big difference between the 2

  10. Day 4 and all's well with the world.

Umm... At least in so far as the X1 is concerned. Few shockingly good surprises here and there but not with the console, but rather with my net services. Pay for "up to 10megs" and get 20? - Me'sa like this!

Umm, that is as long as they aren't charging me for it. My Day by Day Evaluation of the X1 ;)

If you are using the speed test on the console don't get to excited,it isn't very reliable.

It's always told me i'm getting faster broadband than I actually am.

@ Badger, for some reason my speed tests have been all over the place recently, as in the past few weeks.

Went from 74.9D - 11.9U pretty much 99% of the time to everything from 25D - 3U... Even a few times it was 93D - 12U, but usually much lower than normal. Funny thing is, I can do this test on X1 and on my PC (both wired) and get the same results, using a
server in Washington for my PC to test against the console's numbers and they're nearly identical.

Here's the kicker. If I use a server near me, I get what my ISP package says I should get... very close to 100D - 12U... and it's stable, not all over the place. I have no idea who to contact to check into it. lol

  14. Okay, so the check speed via the X1 will outright lie to you. Wondered if the same is true via the 360.

Nope, X1 = 13mbps and the 360 = 6mbps. (Test done within minutes of each other as the 360 has to sign you out in order to do it.)

    Good to know badger.

varied speeds can be expected, the further away the speed test server is, the more inaccurate the results will be, that is why most speed test sites will try and go to the closest server, most of my X1 speed tests come in about 75mbps at about 65-70ms latency,
one day i was bored and checked where my X1 was connecting to for its speed test, it was connecting to an IP address registered in Virginia, which is 800 miles away from where i actually am.
