My console won't read any game discs that I haven't already downloaded. Can I fix this, ...

Just got a brand new console delivered today to and it won't read any discs. I went to MS chat and they said it was damaged during shipping. I referenced this thread and all of a sudden it was a known issue that they're fixing.

I tried to get an RMA from Newegg but since the console was bundled with Destiny they won't refund the full price.

No games, no money. Disappointing. If you're not going to give us consoles that read discs, at least give us digital codes so we can play something.

Do you have any issues with other disc-based games?

Do you notice any scratches on the COD disc?

Another thing you can try is to search for the game using the Xbox app on mobile, then install it from there. That will download the game to your console, but obviously you need a license to play it. The disc acts as a license, so even if it is scratched and won't install from the disc itself, if the console is able to read enough of the disc to confirm that you own it, you'll be good to go.

If it won't launch no matter what, after trying what I suggested in the previous paragraph, then either the disc has a bad scratch on it that prevents the console from properly reading it, or your console's optical drive is not functioning correctly.

they should be all digital downloads or at least give us that option to either buy the game disc copy or buy it $15 cheaper digitally! and another reason they should make them digital download (ac 3,X COM, etc.) eventually your 360 will not read the game
disk any longer no matter if you buy the cleaning kit or not! so in a way what good are those game disc if they can't no longer be read. I am one for DIGITAL DOWNLOAD. becuase my 360 can no longer read game discs. I'm on my 7th 360 console!. I can't play halo
4! becuase my console can't read it! and I refuse to buy a new 360 console ( which would be my 8th one) becuase the same problem will show it self!. so I'M ALL FOR DIGITAL DOWNLOAD. hopefully the 720 or what ever the new microsoft home console will be named,
will have digital download. and hopefully it won't cost us $400 or $500

Can you confirm if your console can read DVD discs?

Xbox 360 games are on DVD and Xbox One games are on Blu-Ray. The Xbox One's Blu-ray drive has a separate laser to read DVD's, if it has malfunctioned, Xbox 360 games can't be read and the digital download for BC games won't start.

To test this out, try playing a DVD movie disc. In all likelihood these films won't play and that will confirm drive malfunction. If this is the case you'll need your console repaired/replaced.

This may be the problem. DVDs aren’t working in the drive. I will see if this can be fixed or if I need to replace the system.

Yay I have the Xbox 1 Day One Edition with Kinect I went to the midnight release. But I haven't had any serious issues with the disc drive. It's a Philips one they put in the console. Sometimes it makes a sort of scraping noise but doesn't damage my discs,
and says it cant read the game/DVD disc. I just eject it and re-insert it and that fixes it.
