My console turns off by itself

My console is turning off by itself. The thing is it's barely staying on. Whenever I try to turn on, it holds for a second and then turns off again.

Is that a matter to ask for repair or is there anything I can do? Didn't really want to post it and have to wait ages to get it back (also there's a game inside it and Microsoft support said it's likely to not get it back, but the console doesn't stay on
long enough to remove it)

I'm assuming you are consulting around your xbox side (not wiring) but I will try and help with both methods.

Xbox Side:

Check if you have any power settings which may tell the xbox to turn off after so long.

If there is the disable it.

If there isn't then if your account is a child account check if the family timer is enabled - if so disable that.

Wiring Side:

Ensure your cables aren't stretching by dangling a major distance, if so this could be pulling the cable.

If this is not the issue then check the wire is in correctly.

Finally if it's non of these errors and you still have xbox warranty please contact Xbox Support.

turns off by itself

ok so my xbox 360 turns of my itself after 5 minutes its not over heated and it sits all by its lonesome and it dust freei dont understand why this is happening I just bought in January so its not even a year old.

Can you unplug the console for five or ten minutes and then try again?

Note: you can also eject a disc manually using a paper clip and
this guide.

If it's still not working, you may want to try
this to reset your console to factory defaults.

Try a different wall outlet (also, be sure you're not plugged in through a surge protector!), to see if that resolves the issue.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, then the console will likely need repair (if you get no other suggestions that is). You can set your repair up
here.

EDIT: Is it a slim?, if so have you tried cleaning the power (on/off) button with a soft cloth?. And when it turns on/off what colour is the light on the adapter?.

not sure..but i am having the same problem.

One thing i noticed is that the console doesn't make a loud run up noise like it did when I first got last June..the fan does turn but it's very weak..maybe the fan is defect. I finally decided to send it in for repair..since it turning off and on in the
middle (bout 15 minutes into the game)of a game..sick and frak'n tired of it.

I had this problem today on the 360 slim 4gb. I took out the external hard drive and then put it back in. Works so far.
