i got gears of war ultimate edition and i got the codes for the other gears but my gears of war 3 code isnt working

That code means there's a region issue with the game.

Your account region must match your actual region like the link that onyx posted

That would be why your friend downloaded it

Selecting the US won't work if you don't live there and console region doesn't affect it
