    First, lets ensure that all your billing information on your account is current/correct. You may do that on Microsoft's Billing site here: Billing-Payments
    Afterwards, please ensure that you have no outstanding balances due on your account: Services

    After you've done that, please make sure that your account security proofs (Phone number, Address, and recovery email) are current here: Privacy

    If you continue to get an error in attempt to redeem your code, please contact Xbox Support so they can take a look into your account and redeem to code. You may do that anytime here: Contact

    Thanks Cloud, I just had an email from 3rd line, confirming what you said too.

    I only had 1 month before my live membership ran out, they cancelled it and sent me a 1 month code.

    That worked and then the 12+1 code worked.

    All sorted now :)

    It's strange that the credit card i removed from my account during this 12 months membership expired in 2010 and it still caused this problem.

    I have the same error when redeeming the 12 month gold membership code, on My Account page on Xbox live website.

    I have tried from the console and website.
