My child wants to play Mindcraft Multiplayer, but I can't change the settings

You need to add your son to your family group by signing in to https://account.microsoft.com/family and then add him as a member. Once added and validated, you may sign in to https://account.xbox.com/settings to manage his settings.

I have same issue for my kid, she is not able to add or join her friends minecraft and her settings are already changed to allow.

The computer denies her from adding friends or joining other servers.

The settings for privacy and online safety are set to 'child defaults' but he can't access his game as a multiplayer. I don't know what settings I need to change

To be able to play multiplayer you will need to change the setting for multiplayer to allow. It can be found under Online & Privacy settings.

If the account is a child account then a parent account will need to change these settings as mentioned.

This doesn't help with my situation. Nothing I can do to change my settings so I can play with my friends on Minecraft which should be a game that EVERYONE should have multiplayer compatibility but for some reason, I can't do it. The game says I need realm
which is fine, but apparently my settings are messed up and I can't change it. I'm 17 fresh out of high school and a man can't play Minecraft with the boys when my birthday almost coming up. My account shouldn't be labeled as "child" When I'm a grown person
now.
