My brother and I can not stay connected to xbox live

My brother and I recently bought a new router last week. Before this one, we could both play xbox live at the same time with no problem. The problem we are having now is that if we both sign in we will eventually disconnected from xbox live but when I go
and check the connection it is perfect. Only one of us is able to play on xbox live at a time. I have tried opening several ports but with the same outcome. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Can not stay connected to xbox live

I'd start by clearing the system cache (it's just updates plus other temporary files, nothing that's at all important to anyone) by:

1) Tap the silver Xbox Guide button on the controller, go right 2 clicks to Settings, pick System Settings.

2) Select Storage (or Memory).

3) Move over any hard drive or memory unit (not the Cloud) & press (Y) on your controller & pick Clear System Cache.

4) When asked to confirm storage device maintenance, choose Yes.

Some NAT problems are subtle and don't appear in the Test Xbox Live Connection test. Most likely there's a port blocked... ports can be blocked in your router, modem, or at your ISP.
Since the Xbox 360 uses different ports than PCs & Macs use, you can't see the effect of a port blockage except on the Xbox. A sequential power cycle is the first step in clearing a port blockage:

1) turn off the Xbox then

2) unplug the power from the router (Some folks have a combination modem-router AKA 'gateway'. If so, skip step 3).

3) unplug the power from the modem.

4) Wait at least 30 secs then replug the modem (or gateway) power.

5) Wait 'til the light on the front of the modem (or gateway) which says ONLINE, READY, CABLE or DSL is on solid (not flashing), then plug in the router. If you have a gateway instead of a modem and router, then when that light says it's ready, skip step
6.

6) Wait until the WiFi light on the router is on; you may not use WiFi, but it's still a good indicator your router is finished booting up.

7) Turn on the Xbox.

 

Disconnected from live when I sign in.

When i test my connection with live everything checks out, no issues. Then I sign in to my profile (it does have an active Gold membership) and as soon as i sign in i get "disconnected from xbox live". My brother who is in a different state signed into my
profile with no issues. I did a speed test, my download is 15mbps download my upload is 1.14 mbps and my ping is 38ms. I can stay connected to live so long as i do not try to sign in.

 

Hey there, can I ask whether your have your network settings are set to manual or automatic? It could be that you're IP addresses are conflicting and booting each other offline. What is the report saying when you run the connect test, can you post the results?

One suggestion I can make is setting static IP addresses for both consoles and see if that fixes the issue, please see here for a really good guide on static IPs:

Yeah we both have our settings set as automatic. I followed the steps from the link but i am stuck on DNS. Is there another way to obtain DNS IP addresses?

 

So it's making you specify the DNS? Unfortunately I've never had to do that so don't know any other way then to call you ISP and have them issue you it.

I went and followed some instructions from this post and disabled all my ports and only enabled UPnP. Still having issues, would it be best if i make a static ip rather than UPnP enabled
