  1. my broken Xbox 360, it is what it is?

So recently my Xbox bought the farm for the 4th time. This past one had a longer life that the first 3 but finally came to the same fate as the ones before it.

Let me start off by saying that this is my personal experience with the Xbox 360 and is not a statement about the product overall. I am only describing the current situation I'm in and have no intention on ranting or making slanderous comments towards the
Xbox or Microsoft and would appreciate that anyone choosing to comment on this thread do the same.

So, I first got my 360 in 2006, one of the first models. Since then, I have sent it in for repairs/replacements three times. The 4th lasted me for much longer than the first three but recently ceased to work. For the last three I was able to send the unit
in for free due to the 3 year warranty, a change to the original one year which i appreciated. This time, getting it repaired for free was not an option. I was faced with the decision to either send it in to be repaired for a fee, or to move on. I thought
about it and decided to not send it in to be repaired based on a matter of principle for me. I feel that based on the number of times this has happened to me that it is sort of like paying upkeep fees on a timeshare or property tax, paying more money every
so often on something I already own. So I know saw my Xbox now as broken and decided to attempt to fix it myself ( well aware that Microsoft would never touch it again and voiding any sort of warranties it may have had). I figured broken and any attempt I
made would not put myself in a worse situation, it would still be broken. I succeeded and it lived again for about another month but eventually failed. This time it was beyond my understanding on how to fix it.

So now my options are to buy a new 360, which is outdated but would allow me to play all of my games or buy a next gen system leaving my currently owned games as nothing more than unusable games(for me) that I once enjoyed. Honestly, if the Xbox one were
backwards compatible I would just get one and chalk it up to "it is what it is".

After pondering this for a few days I thought I would call support out of curiosity. I basically described my situation as it is written here. I was told that they will not service it since i tampered with it, I completely understand and am OK that. I was
then told that systems are not meant to last forever, again I agree with that but I have owned The other 2 systems from that gen and they are still ticking. Anyway, at the end of the conversation, the suggestions I received were to look for a cheap 360 at
a pawn shop or somewhere similar or to upgrade to the next gen system. Let me say that while nothing fruitful came of this call, the service rep was very friendly and was willing to hear me out. Nor were there any other options that I expected to arise from
the conversation and I understand that. The service rep was great though and I felt he was great with what he was able to do or say.

This brings me back to where I was, effectively pay for something I own or buy one of the next gen systems. I'm sure I am not the first one to make a post like this but I wanted to put it out there. I'm just curious on people's thoughts on this. Just please
keep it constructive and not a bashing session on the product or company. There are plenty of other places to make such comments.

    :)

    Is it broken?

    Hey there Sidlicious420!

I'm definitely sorry to hear what's going on with your console. As to what's causing the noise, it could be multiple reasons.

Here is what I recommend you look into

First off, go to myservice.xbox.com and sign in with the Email and password to your Microsoft account (same info you'd use to sign into your gamertag). Once your signed in, register your xbox one console. Keep in mind that you have a standard 1 year warranty
from Microsoft from the day you purchased it. So you could look into setting up a repair or exchange with Microsoft.

If you've purchased the console within the last 14-30 days, you could look into going to the retailer you purchased the console from (If you didn't purchase the console with microsoftstore.com) to see if they would be willing to exchange it for you.

As for your pins not showing up, Microsoft is currently investigating the issue. Here is a post of another gamer who was having a similar issue that I posted on

    forums.xbox.com/.../1725441.aspx

Feel free to pm me if you have any questions

  3. Is it broken?

My One made a buzzing sound which eventually turned into not reading the discs. No whirling sound. You can either return it to the retailer for exchange or register the serial number on xbox.com and schedule a repair.

Still quite easy to pick up a nearly new 360S, or you could go with a brand new 360E

Do you have family or a friend that could look at it for you, that live close by? If not, then maybe getting another 360S or 360E is the choice.

I think the choice you gave yourself to either send it in or move on a was a false dichotomy. Meaning you only gave yourself two choices when in reality you had several more options. A few off the top of my head would be trading the console into gamestop
(before you tampered with it). I have traded in a broken console before and gotten a refurbished one and only ended up paying around $50. They have deals and such and trade ins if you watch the ads. Another option would be to sell it on ebay. Consoles that
have not had the seal broken sell for decent money, considering they are broken. Even with the seal broken you can sell your console on ebay. So I would suggest doing that.
