My account name and icon flash without audio input in Xbox Game Bar party chat

When I'm in anybody's party using open mic, my name and icon flash constantly when I'm not speaking and when my headset mic is muted. I can hear and talk to my friends without issue, and my friends have confirmed they can't hear anything from me while it's happening, so it's not a fan or other background noise. I mainly use discord and it works as it should, but when a friend wants to talk while playing a cross platform game, I need to use the Game Bar party chat option and this has been a bug for a while that hasn't resolved itself.

If I manually mute myself in the party or enable push to talk, the flashing stops... but I prefer using open mic. I've looked into everything I can think of (leaving/joining/creating parties, audio settings, headset background noise filter, Bluetooth connection issues, swapping my headset, etc.) and nothing has worked so far. The issue has only appeared if I create/join a party through either my PC or laptop; if I create/join a party directly through my Xbox, I don't have this issue. If I'm in a party by myself, this issue is still present.

    :)

My account name and icon flash without audio input in Xbox Game Bar party chat

Hi and thanks for reaching Microsoft Xbox gamer's community. My name is Josef.
I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft Xbox user like you.

Hope you're doing great today Venrenol

This sounds like a glitch on the game bar, due to as you said, it seems no one is hearing you when the icon is flashing.

I can advise you couple..things to try on your system, if the issue persists the next step will be send this feedback to Microsoft / Xbox:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/sen...
    Or
    https://support.xbox.com/help/account-profile/m...

If one doesn't work, proceed with the next

    1. Open Settings, click Update and Security and then Windows Update;

    Click Check for Updates;

Click the Download and Install Now option, if available (Install optional updates as well)

Also, check the Microsoft Store for any updates on the Xbox apps and its services and update everything too.

Now Go to windows settings > apps > search for gaming services app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that, click repair and then reset

Then do the same for the Game bar app:

Go to windows settings > apps > search for Game bar app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that, click repair and then reset, and try again

    2. Try uninstalling game bar via powershell command

Right-click on the Start button and select Windows PowerShell (Admin) from the pop-up menu.

Copy and paste the following command in PowerShell and hit Enter to uninstall the Game Bar from your system.

    Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay | Remove-AppxPackage

Now head over to Microsoft Store and search for Xbox Game Bar, install it and give it a new try

    3. Run the SFC tool to find and repair possible system corruptions

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

    4. Perform an in-place upgrade for your system in case there's a corruption that can't be fixed using the SFC tool

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

    5. (Optional) Perform a custom windows installation, in case there's an specific third party file / program causing the issue

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

Cant hear game audio when in party on PC

    Of course, mate.

    Ok:

Open the Xbox Game Bar and join/initiate a party chat (don’t leave the party till the completion of the solution).

Now open the Xbox Game Bar Settings by clicking on the Gear icon and in the menu shown, click on Party Chat (in the left half of the window).

Then set your Audio Output to the headset and if it is already set to the headset change it to another device (if you only have one single device, then try to use a dummy device from applications like Virtual Audio Cable).

Repeat the same for Audio Input and then close the Settings Windows.

Then click on the Widget Menu and choose Audio.

Now make sure the output (in the Mix tab) and input (in the Voice tab) is set to your headset. And make sure the system sounds are on max.

Then repeat steps 2 to 4 but make sure your headset is set as audio output and input device.

Now close the Settings window and check if the party chat and the game's volume have started to work fine.

If not, then check if disabling Push to Talk in the Party Chat settings of the Game Bar solves the issue
