  2. External Hard Drive read as media only

I'm sorry, but how does having a working external HDD then after an update a nonworking HDD constitute us having to do this BS?

I had a perfectly fine Xbox One with all my games on my external HDD and this morning after and update... A POS.

Please realize this is bigger than 1 person issue.

  3. Playing Game Problem

I have an Xbox 360 original which had a lite-on drive. When I bought the xbox I also took out the insurance for an extra year which GAME were offering.

The drive broke after a year and a few months not spinning to read the disks so I sent it to the GAME insurance to fix it. They changed the drive from a Lite-On to a Hitachi. The xbox after an update a few months back started not reading disks such as assassins
creed brotherhood, and black ops which I have found out are AP2.5 protected games. These games worked perfectly on my friends BenQ xbox. So the games were fine but the xbox could not player certain games.

I believe my xbox was eligable with this offer:Gaming articles on Engadget but
microsoft could not see my xbox is eligable because the drive was changed from the original to this bad hitachi.

What can I do with an Xbox which basically does not play any new games?

Hmm, let's see what we can do to help fix this.

First let's try powering down your console and then unplug your drive. Wait 30 seconds, and then power your console on without the HDD plugged in. Once everything has started, let's then try plugging in the HDD to see if your console detects it.

If your console still isn't detecting the drive, let's try a different storage device to see if it's able to detect that. Also, just to check, has your console ever been able to detect this storage device?

  5. Replugging my drive with any combonation of powering my console on and off doesnt work. I have several USB Thumb Drives that work in my console just fine. My USB 3.0 cable for the External Hard Drive gets powered by the console, but still will not show up.

    Hey there Poisoned Wiener,

I would recommend connecting the drive to a working PC and get a diagnostic tool from the manufacturer's website and check the drive's health. See if the drive passes the S.M.A.R.T. test as well as the extended test for bad sectors.

If you have your data backed up, try resetting both the console and the drive to its factory defaults, wiping all info.

Contacting MS's support can also prove to be useful. My 300GB Hitachi HDD not working on Xbox 360 after update :)

Connecting 300gb hdd as internal drive

There is no 300gb internal hard drive for the 360 so it sounds like you don't have an official hard drive, that'll be why your having problems.

    There's a 250gb or 320gb hdd for the 360s.

1TB external HDD on Xbox 360 issues

Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 1tb HDD in an external enclosure with its own power source

I have tried the front and rear USB ports on the 360

I have formatted it using windows default settings - Nothing

The Xbox 360 just can't see it, and I have no idea why

what annoys me is that Microsoft have not really given any specs regarding the updated support for these drives, like a recommend option, something which is guaranteed to work
