my 3.0 usb ports aren't working kinda

my usb ports are only working for a wireless controller but they don't work for this external hard drive i bought which doesn't give me the option to format, when i plug the external hard drive in it doesn't even turn on when connected to my xbox one but
it does for my computer

No Becuase the HDD works in the other USB port that is 3.0. I have been using it since i got the console at launch and it's never worked in the other USB port as that port says it can only play media.

I recommend you format the drive to the 360 or anything that runs NTFS such as the 360 or a Windows PC. The USB ports are working fine its just it probably needed to be formatted to a different device before it can format to the One.

 

the usb ports may not be working fine if it is not recognizing the external hard drive. she first needs to make sure that usb ports will read other things and make sure they are working fine first. then she can use the links i gave her to troubleshoot or
call support

 

i already tried to format it on my windows computer cuz the gamestop employee told me to and it still doesn't work any other suggestions

Have you tried the 360 console yet? I understand it didn't work for me right away even if i formatted it to my P.c. Try the 360 and reply back here thanks!

When inserting it to the 360 did the console detect it? Check the storage section on the 360's settings to tell if it reads the external hard drive.

Can you try finding a USB or anything different from the External hard drive and make sure its USB 3.0 and the format type is NTFS. Or you can find a Controller charger cable and see if that works as well. if not then your console cannot read any of your
USB ports and might need repairs. Also can you tell us what brand of external hard drive this is. Thanks

 

yeah a controller is working for my xbox one but my external hard drive which is a 3tb seagate is not working so my usb ports work fine its just for some reason the external hard drive isn't so any other suggestions or should i just get a new hard drive
and try again

Perhaps a better investment would be a new cord for your hard drive? It's uncommon for a cord to break but if it does it can cause some confusing problems. A three terabyte drive most likely has a detachable cord, before replacing the entire hard drive I
would try that first. You can always return the cord.

 

i've had my xbox one for 2 years now i think, would microsoft replace mine with one that worked because its not the drive since i had a friend try and fix it and he did it worked for his xbox but not mine

 

If you had it for that long it's no longer under warranty and won't be replaced if you take it a to a retailer they'll try to investigate the issue but that's the most that they can do.
