    Help!!!!!

i’m a typical thick parent how knows nothing about xbox. So my 9 yr old son is driving me crazy because i know nothing. His headphones are dead even the the brand new pair dont work. We have tried all 3 headsets in phones and tablets and they all work fine!!
However, he has just pointed out to me that there is a mircophone muted symbol on the screen which isnt normally there! Could this be the problem which i’ve been trying to solve for weeks? If it is someone please help me to become a hero dad by tell me how
    to fix it.

    :)

How annoying is uneducated kids screaming over the mic on xbox parties?

This, there isn't an issue when you can mute dumb shits. Anyone that spams their mic gets muted, if i can hear your music, if i can hear the game, or if i can hear your mommy in the background you're going to be muted.

    Hi Wayne!

Thanks for reaching out to us with this issue. Since you've tested out the headset on other devices and it appears to be functional, then you may wish to try out the headset on a different controller if you haven't already. Whenever the headset is plugged
into a controller, you should see a headset symbol where you are seeing a muted mic symbol. You'll definitely want to check the OneGuide by pressing the Xbox button on your controller while the headset is plugged in, then scroll to the right of the guide to
the Gear symbol for settings, then choose Audio settings and ensure that the mute is not engaged.

If mute is not engaged on the Audio settings, then double check that the mic is not muted on the headset itself (assuming your headset has an audio switch). Should it not be muted. either via the console or the headset itself, then you'll want to ensure
that this is not true on a different controller. Reason being is that it is possibly the headset jack itself that isn't recognizing headset and causing the muted mic symbol. I'm listing out some helpful articles below that contain troubleshooting steps that
you can take to determine what may be happening:

Give these a try and let us know the results!

I hope that this helps out!

    Hi Wayne!

Thanks for replying! The gear symbol is one that looks like, well, a gear or cogwheel. When you open up the OneGuide (the menu that slides out from the right when you push the Xbox button), it will be located on the top most right.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi there wayne!

Thanks for reaching out! I'm sorry to hear about the current issue you may be having with one of your Xbox One Controller.
I recommend to take a look at the following troubleshooting resources:

    • Have you
      updated your controller’s softwareto
      support the Stereo Headset ?
    • Make sure your controller has fresh batteries. When the batteries get weak, some controller functions, such as audio
and rumble, are turned off to conserve the remaining power.
    • Make sure your Headset Adapter is firmly plugged into your controller and that your Stereo Headset’s 3.5-mm cable
is securely plugged into the Headset Adapter. You will know it’s plugged in properly if you press the mute button and the LED lights up.
    • Try your Xbox One Stereo Headset with another device, such as a laptop, to see if the headset is working. If not,
the headset will need to be replaced. To order a replacement, go to the Xbox Online Service
      Center
      .
    • Try your Stereo Headset and Stereo Headset Adapter on another controller, if you can. If the headset works on the
      second controller, try updating the
      first controller
again. If that fails, the controller will need to be replaced. To order a replacement, go to the
      Xbox Online Service Center

Go through the support links thoroughly. This will give you a step by step guide so that we can try and get rid
    of that Mute symbol.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Wayne,

It seems that you are in the Settings menu proper. The gear I described will be located in the OneGuide, which is the menu that slides out when you press/release the Xbox button on the console. Once the guide is open and you go all the way to the right,
it highlights the gear symbol and you can see options there on the OneGuide that relate to audio settings if you have the headset plugged into the controller. Then just scroll down to Audio, select it with the A button and it will show you the menu for the
audio settings. If you are performing these actions and you do not see Audio listed to select, then your controller is not recognizing the headset.

Hope this clears it up for you!

When you say the headphones work with phones and tablets, be aware that there are two standards for 3.5mm headphone connectors.

These are called "OMTP" and "CTIA", and on both standards, the microphone and ground connections are reversed.

So if you have a headset that conforms to the OMTP standard, the microphone is sending signals to the controller's ground contact, while the controller is listening on the microphone contact to the ground pin of the headset.

If the headsets are CTIA compliant, they should work on the Xbox One. However if they are OMTP compliant headsets, you will need an OMTP to CTIA adapter cable. Since the cable simply crosses two wires, they work both ways (so you can buy a CTIA to OMTP and
it'll also work), and they shouldn't cost you more than a coffee to go.

If you are sure that the headsets are CTIA compliant, then try to compose a message on the console.

Open the Guide menu again by pressing the Xbox button in the middle of the controller, and in the menu that pops in, go to the section with two rectangular speech bubbles.

Create a new message, and press the Microphone button next to the text entry field. Try to talk into the microphone. Then finish the recording, and try to listen to your recorded message.

If you hear your message, the headset and controller are working fine.

Should you still be unable to hear your recorded message, you might have to try a different controller. Maybe the headset connector of the controller is defective.

Why is Xbox One muting everyone?

If your on ghost, get into a game press start then go to the 'mute players' option, in mute all, then for good measure go to 'mute groups' then select turn mute off.

XBOX Live continued harassment of young teenage son despite complaints filed and blocking

Yeah the only thing you can really do is block, report and mute the users bothering your son. If your son can't stop playing with the friend they somehow always get through, then set up a private party where only your sons friends can join.

Muting the players will be the best thing as they cannot talk to your son after this, even if they join the game, they'll be muted, but make sure to mute them by their profiles and not in the game, as muting them in game will only mute them in that specific
game, but muting by the profile, you will mute them in party's and any game.
