    Mute Icon Stuck


    This is a known issue within these forums and I've had multiple issues where this will pop up then go away.

    Today there was a Microsoft update on May 25th, 2019 at 11:35am cst. My son came home and the mute icon came back. He had been playing earlier in the day and everything was fine. Now it's broke again.

    I have tried every known option at trying to fix the issue, except trying a brand new controller ( I already have 3 and none work). I tried using the adapter from the older controllers with no luck. I tried reinstalling the software with no luck and no
    i don't just have another xbox lying around to try the controllers on.

    No setting changed from the update. The headset and mic work just fine when I try them on my cell phone etc. All xbox one settings checked and it still cannot detect a microphone.

    Xbox fix your software!

    Hello Eric,

    Thanks for coming to the forums. When you say that you have tried everything, can you post what you have tried. Also, what is the brand of the controllers and headset? Had this issue yesterday, I updated the controller even though there wasn't an update
    with the headset plugged in. If you are referring to the home screen icon in top right, that is not a mute icon. It represents that a mic is not connected. So when plugging it into the controller it isn't being detected.

    Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear about the issue with the headset..



    I recommend taking a look at the following troubleshooting articles:




    If the problem persists:

    • Try your Xbox One Stereo Headset
      with another device, such as a laptop, to see if the headset is working. If not, the headset will need to be replaced.
    • Try your Headset on another
      controller, if you can. If the headset works on the second controller, try
      updating the first controlleragain.
      If that fails, the controller will need to be replaced. To order a replacement, go to the
      Xbox Online Service Center.

    Try this out and let us know the results.

    Hi, it's possible that you have a BAN for communication. Or that you have set mute in party.

    When I'm playing siege sometimes my wife will talk to me and I will go to settings and just turn audio off so I can talk to her without distracting my party or having anyone hear us. Are you sure you haven't just turned the audio to off?
    If that is the case how do I turn it back on.
