Mute Icon on screen and Headsets do not work.

Son has an Xbox One S

Headsets worked upon first getting the Xbox in Dec 2018 within a month they stopped working. We have tried 3 headsets, 3 controllers, Console Resets and many troubleshoots from here with no luck.

Headsets do not work or show up on the xbox in settings on this Xbox (We have used the controllers and headsets on another persons xbox and all work just fine.) Volume in settings is grayed out. Mute Icon is present on xbox home screen in corner.

I cannot find where he would have a ban or block on the account either.

Xbox Please help!

Thanks for coming to the forums with your issue with the headsets. Just to clarify the icon on the home screen means the headset is not being detected. This means when plugged into the controller is isn't noticed. Have you tried running the update with the
headset plugged in? Is you console plugged into a wall outlet? Second sounds weird but it does affect the console and accessories if not getting the power needed. Also, you can try a

stereo headset adapter as this plugs into the controller differently. It could very well be the 3.5mm jack has went bad.

To update controller with headset plugged in go to settings>Kinect and devices>Devices and accessories>go down to the … dots>hit A on firmware version.

You've given the best advice thank you. My son did say the mute icon is on the screen but his headset is NOT on mute.

This may sound like a stupid question, but are you signed into your profile (gamertag) when you see the mute icon?

I use a Passkey on my controller, but before I sign in I always see the mute icon on screen. It is only after I turn on controller to get Passkey screen, enter 6 character code that signs me in, that the mute icon changes to headset/mic icon.

As a test, are you able to plug a earbud/mic into the controller?

Does the mute icon change when you plug it in?

Thanks for coming to the forums. If you are referring to the icon on the home screen. This is not a mute icon, this is letting you know the headset is not being recognized. Try updating your controller with the headset plugged in. Yes it is a known issue
and they have been working on it.

would this still be the correct fix even if the muted microphone icon is showing no matter if there is a headset plugged into the controller or not? This icon stays on the screen when I plug any headset into the controller and when no headset at all is plugged
in. Thanks
