On the 360 i could hit the guide button and select the media tab and play music from the hard drive or media drive whilst i was playing games. I used this function all the time because most game music is rubbish. I have tried to figure out a way to do this
on the xbox one. So far all i can manage is to snap the music app to the side and play my music from the network using a companion app on my tab. The problem with this is you have a chunk of the screen dedicated to the music app. The second problem is when
the track finishes and goes to the next track the music app opens to the full screen minimising my game. This is no good. Is there something im doin wrong here, surely i can play music in the background like on the 360.

Has anyone figured out where the background music player is.

Also why'is the optic out DTS not working.

    :)

Playing music stored on my X360 Harddrive via Xbox Music, how?

In order to play music that's stored on your Xbox harddrive you'll need to use the built in media player. Xbox Music is an app for use with an Xbox Music Pass to stream music and videos from the Xbox Music catalog.

Can either of the XBOXes utilize locally stored MP3/4 with the XBOX Music service?

No, currently the Xbox Music app on the console is only for streaming music from the Xbox Music catalog using a Xbox Music Pass. In order to play your local/NAS files you'll have to use the built-in music player.

this feature was actually the biggest factor in me picking 360 over ps3 my absolutely favorite feature i love my music more than my game and now we have pandora FINALLY i would give anythin to have that playin in the background let us minimize the snap window
without completely closing out the audio and then ill be happy the next gen should do everything the old gen should and better makes me wanna go back to 360 which as i stand now i still feel like its a better console than its new baby brother.i hate to admit

XBOX ONE Media Player no longer finds music on network

Corrected when trying to stream music on my XBOX One from my PC using media player app, I do this because playlists are also playable, the music files are no longer found. Video files and picture files are still able to be streamed. I am wondering since
the add of music to onedrive and xbox music did they remove the ability to stream music with media player. on another note the media player on the One is awful compared the players on the 360.

    I need help.

Hi! I'm Luis, a fellow Xbox Gamer . Thanks for reaching us out here.

You can listen to music on your Xbox 360 console by connecting a portable media player, inserting a CD, or playing music from your console’s hard drive.

    -From a portable media player:

Connect your media player’s sync cable to a USB port on the Xbox 360 console. There are two USB ports on the front of your console behind an oval door.

Press the Guide button  on your controller.

Move to Media, and then select Music Player.

    Select Portable Device.

Select the music you want to play.

    -Rip a CD

Load a music CD into the console disc tray. The music player starts automatically.

    Select Rip CD.

Select the songs you want to copy to the hard drive, and then select Rip CD.

    -Music while playing:

You can play music from a portable music player or your hard drive while playing a game. Here’s how:

Plug the sync cable of your portable media player into a USB port on the front of your Xbox 360 console.

Start a game, and then press the Guide button  on your controller.

    Go to Media.

    Choose Select Music.

Select the location of the music you want to hear (hard drive or a connected media player).

Press the Guide button  to return to your game.

Your music will play in place of the game soundtrack if the game supports custom music.

    DLNA Music player.

Can you give us a tad bit more about your setup?

You mention DLNA so I am guessing your tablet is not an MS OS, and you are using "PlayTo" to stream from the device. What tablet/OS are you streaming from?

You mention tiled background, so it doesn't sound like you are the simple System Music player for playback. There are 3 ways to stream on the 360; System Music Player - dashboard button > media tab > system music player,
Media Center (found under my apps) and xbox music (which is associated with your MS account and can find music in your collection on your network). Which music player are you using to stream? (sounds like Media centeplayback. There are 3

In reality for streaming DNLA I would just use System Music Player with it cool Hippie screen saver. Media Center is a lot of overhead to just stream tunes. Also you can start your tunes streaming in System Music Player and then launch a game and have
your tunes playing in the game (many games support this)
