Music files

Seeing as music files are distributed in a secure fashion (that may include DRM), there may not be a way to 'shorten' them/reduce file size. The only thing I can think of, is to drop the quality of the audio before you download the track/s (this can lower
file size), but this may also not be an option via Xbox Music/Groove Pass, due to Quality Assurance.

A solution would be, to manage your phone's free space by removing any unused apps, and to backup photos and any other content on your phone to your PC, at least once a month. You can do this by plugging your phone in directly into your PC via your USB charger
cable, or by downloading the Windows Phone app. You can also sync all content, using OneDrive.

I am having the same issue. I copied a bunch of Windows Media files from an older machine into my Surface Pro's music library. I can use File Manager to open and play files one by one ... but they don't show up (for example by Album) in My Music within the
Music App.



... And I get a message "It's lonely here. Why not add some music?" In File Manager, the directory with all the music files shows up in the Music Library. And I am also seeing the message "Your music is hidden by the filter."

As far as music formats go, MP3, M4A (AAC), and WMA file types are supported on OneDrive

And to format a music file to mp3 you gotta use a Music converter?

Corrected when trying to stream music on my XBOX One from my PC using media player app, I do this because playlists are also playable, the music files are no longer found. Video files and picture files are still able to be streamed. I am wondering since
the add of music to onedrive and xbox music did they remove the ability to stream music with media player. on another note the media player on the One is awful compared the players on the 360.

You can get a converter (I use DB Poweramp) and convert it to a MP3 or WMA audio file that your xbox will play. Most of the converters have a free trial...
