Multitude of problems installing a game on Xbox One X

I have had possibly the worst experience of my gaming life trying to install and play Borderlands 3 on my Xbox One X, a device that's about 2.5 years old. I've tried multiple solutions with no permanent fix so I was hoping to get some advise or at least
vent my frustrations. For some background, I've been having some problems in the last few months with my Xbox One X installing and playing games without getting the "installation stopped" or "unable to sync data with the cloud" errors. I just changed my network
connection to use a wired ethernet cord and it seems like that has helped, a little.

To the current issue with Borderlands 3. Right from the get go, I consistently ran into issues with the install. I tried restarting the install multiple times and hit the 'Installation Stopped' issue where trying Resume never was able to get the game past
it's current install percentage. After many attempts, I found that keeping a controller on and moving the joystick every few minutes helped avoid the Xbox going into an idle mode and stopping the install. Even after the game completed installing, I ran into
multiple "Unable to sync game data" errors so I constantly had to restart the game and power cycle my Xbox before the game data eventually was able to sync and save my progress.

For a very small window, I was able to play the game without any issues. I received no data syncing warnings and even turned my Xbox off multiple times and came back and was able to pick up right where I left off. After about 15 hours of gameplay, I was
in the middle of playing and the screen went black. I thought it might have been an issue with my TV, as my Xbox was still on, so I tried turning off my TV and found that it was, in fact, and issue with the Xbox. I power cycled the Xbox, a few times as I received
the "Something went wrong" screen and eventually was able to get the Xbox working again. However, after launching and syncing my Borderlands save data, I found my save data was 7 levels lower (about 6 hours of gameplay) than where I was previously. Frustrated
with this, I tried multiple things to get my previous save data back, clearing Xbox Local Save Data, clearing Game Save Data, and nothing appeared to work. I then gave up and decided to play from the game from where I was, only to find that the game was unable
to sync and I continued to get "corrupt save data" errors. The only option I could find was to reinstall the game, however now the Xbox was extremely slow and laggy so I decided to reset the console and try installing fresh.

This is where I'm currently at, but again, running into further "Installation Stopped" errors. I was able to complete the install once, but then I received the "needs to finish installing" message, even though the game was fully installed, and I tried power
cycling a few times but still received this error and the only solution I found was to try reinstalling the game, again.

At this point, I'm beyond frustrated and just defeated. I've enjoyed Xbox consoles and games for many years but this experience may end it for me. If the future of console games is cloud save data and long, error ridden installs, then I don't think that's
for me. I've gotten to the point of sending more time troubleshooting and solving hardware and software issues with the console and games than actually playing the games, and that's not fun. I'm not sure if there are any suggestions available, maybe my Xbox
needs repairs, hard to say at this point, but I am open to any opinions or suggestions.

    :)

Have you tried logging out of your account/profile, restarting the console and logging back in once booted up again?

Do you have an external drive hooked up? I'd be curious to see if this is a storage issue? Maybe the internal drive going bad?

If you have external storage you can try
, I would recommend giving that a shot. Installing Borderlands or another game that might have been giving you issues on that external drive and see if the issues persist. If they do, then I would shift focus to
looking at your Network Status to see if there are any issues there, which might be causing the sync error (though I think the drive is more likely the culprit).

Let us know if you have a hard drive to test with for external, and we can troubleshoot from there.
I was able to find an external hard drive and installed the game and it does appear to be running smoothly now. Thank you for the suggestion.

As far as getting my Xbox hard drive fixed, any suggestions?

Glad to hear it. I can't advise you try and do it yourself, so I would recommend checking out your options at
Microsoft Device Support page here. Even out of warranty they might have options to repair or replace the system.

I'm glad to hear it is working better for you with the external. I'm sorry about the internal. That is something that you should look at getting resolved, as it will likely continue to deteriorate and likely cause issues with the OS and updates in the
    future.
