Is there anything special that is required to have two or more xbox one consoles in one house (i.e. multiple copies of games, multiple xbox live accounts, etc)?

    Hi -

I have just purchased a 2nd xbox one, primarily for the purpose of using for media (Netflix, blu-ray, Amazon, spotify ...). I have a Microsoft account, but not a Gold membership. Can my son play games on one of the consoles while I use the other for media?

Assuming I can, are there special instructions required to do this? There are several posts but it is still unclear.

    Thanks

    Multiple consoles

I now have 3 Xbox one consoles in the house, my question is how do I connect them to where we can all play online together. Do they each need their own Xbox live subscription or what. My Xbox one is set as the home Xbox and I'm confused on how to set up the other xboxs

You can set one console as your "home" console. Let's say that you buy a downloadable game on your home console. Anyone can sign into their own gamertag on that console and play the game.

On the second console, you could download the game you bought without having to pay again, but because it's not your "home" console, you would need to be signed into Live with the gamertag that purchased it in order to play it.

Obviously, if you buy a game on a disc and you want to be able to play it on both consoles at once, you would need 2 copies as the disc needs to be in the drive for authentication purposes. If you're not going to be in a situation where you're playing the
same game on both consoles at the same time, you'll be fine, as you can install the game on both consoles and then just put the disc into whichever console you're using at the time.

Other than that, I can't think of anything else you need to consider. Your game saves sync to the cloud automatically, so as long as both consoles are connected to Live, you'll always have the latest version of your save for a game when you switch from one
    console to the other.

Oh yeah, as for Live Gold.....

On your "home" console, your Live Gold account covers everyone that wants to play online on it, so other people in the house wouldn't need to pay for Gold.

On the other console, because it's not your "home" console, your Gold account would not cover everyone that wanted to play online on that machine.

If you've got more than one person in the house that games, your best bet is to set 1 Xbox as your home console, then get someone else in the house to set the other Xbox as their home console. That requires 2 Gold accounts, but that way you can share downloadable
games easily without having to buy them twice, and anyone else that logs into either console will not need Gold to play online.

  6. SigmaTheDJ,

Thanks for the info, that helps a lot. There shouldn't be any simultaneous playing of the same game. I would just like to get my kid out of my office so I can play my games. Thanks again.

My Xbox series x cannot find Teredo IP address

Check if you are using multiple consoles. Not all routers allow you to use multiple Xbox One consoles on the same network. If you have multiple Xbox One consoles and your router doesn't allow you to use multiple consoles, you will either need to use only one console at a time, or you will need to upgrade to a new router that allows you to connect multiple Xbox One consoles.

as others have stated, its better to allow him to log onto the same account at yours that he has at his Dads house. Assuming their Dad is happy to allow that depending on how he has the account set up.

2 small things i would check with his Dad is if there are any parental controls you need to know about like a password etc that he doesn't mind you knowing for purchases or age limited content etc.

The second thing to check is to see if the Dad has been purchasing games digitally using the sons account or his account as depending on how he has the account setup your child may not be able to play some games at your house.

I have 2 consoles in my house 1 is mine the other is my childs. We share games, games pass and xbox live through setting my childs xbox as my home xbox. This means i can sign into my own xbox with my profile and my child can play on their xbox with their
profile. As my childs console is set as my home console they get all the benefits of my subscriptions/games without me being signed into theirs. This only works with 2 consoles and will work in different households.

Let him log in on the same account. He won’t have access to the titles that is game sharing with his fathers account unless you buy them.

Might I suggest instead of switching between accounts, just allowing him to recover his gamertag. This way all of his game saves and progress will be on one account instead of split into two.

Below I have included a link that you can copy and paste into a web browser. This link will explain how to execute this process.
