Multiple Xbox One Consoles, One Router, Open and Moderate NAT

I have read just about every
    post
on the subject, but am still struggling.

Xbox One #1 is Open NAT, and Xbox One #2 reports Moderate NAT.

    Asus RT-N66U firmware ver 3.0.0.4.376_1071

    UPnP enabled

    Static IPs assigned

Tried port triggering (instead of forwarding, for obvious reasons)

    Triggered on:

    • Port 88 (UDP)
    • Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
    • Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
    • Port 80 (TCP)
    • Port 500 (UDP)
    • UDP Port 3544 (UDP)
    • UDP Port 4500 (UDP)
    External to local. No luck.

Is this the best I can do? Should I basically just be happy they aren't strict?

    Thanks!

    :)

  2. Nat on my 360 is strict?

Having your 360 wired and ONE wireless doesn't affect NAT. Strict NAT can be caused by having multiple Xbox consoles on your home network. Unless your gateway or router can support multiple consoles, you will constantly get open NAT on one console and moderate/strict
on the other. To see if your gateway or router can support multiple consoles, refer to :

    forums.xbox.com/.../default.aspx
. Find your device, and click on the overview thread within. Near the bottom of the post, there should be a section that says "Multiple Console Support". If it says no, chances are you won't be able to get both consoles
to Open NAT. What usually works is putting one of our consoles in a DMZ. But again, if your gateway/router can't support multiple consoles, the best you can probably do is get your second console to consistently have Moderate NAT.

does ethernet xbox one download faster?

Sort of on topic: Will ethernet open up the NAT? Just changed routers and my NAT is now moderate vs. open before.

Well first point, yes you should be happy none of both is strict Multiple Xbox One Consoles, One Router, Open and Moderate NAT ;)

But honestly, if you are operating two Xboxes on the same router you should not configure any portforwardings or -triggering add this may cause problems. Instead you better only use UPnp.

And as long as everything is working fine you should not worry about the one Xbox being only on moderate NAT.

  5. Although I do partially agree with suggestion above, in the terms that you should be happy that neither are strict, you could try set up a static IP address on both consoles and see if that helps.

If you try port-forwarding or triggering, ensure they are forwarded or triggered on the relevant IP addresses for both of the consoles.

As long as you can clearly identify which ports are for which IP on your router configuration page you should be fine.

Let me know how it goes. Hope this helps Multiple Xbox One Consoles, One Router, Open and Moderate NAT :)

Sri, WhiskeyGamer1, but portforwarding can always only be setup for one IP at all. You can not setup portforwardings for more than one adress. This is not working with the NAT protocol. Or better said, its impossible. Same with portriggering. The triggered
ports usually are forwarded to the IP which has triggered them, they cannot be forwarded to different IPs simultaneously.

Thats why you have to use UPnP.

  7. Hey there. So you may not be able to forward ports to multiple IPs if your router doesn't support it. You can however try Port Range Triggering.

Some routers offer a Port range as well as an IP range for the port forwarding, which may be useful in this situation, but may still only limit the changes to one IP.

To use port range triggering you disable Port Range Forwarding and DMZ, and enable UPnP.

Some routers may not have UPnP enabled or supported so you would contact your ISP or router manufacturer no?

As I said, the possibility to forward or trigger ports to only one IP (or device) is not a restriction of the router itself, but of the network protocol used for NAT. Also port triggering is only opening up a range of ports by the use of a specific port
and will then have the opened /triggered) ports forwarded to the opening device. Not the whole network. This is not possible.

Today nearly all routers have UPnP included but unfortuntately not all have full support of the IGDP (Internet Gateway Device Protocol) and may cause errors when trying to use more than one UPnP device at a time. If not sure you may wehter check the technical
information on your router at the manufactureres homepage or in the network device section here in the forums.

The only way to get an open NAT on both xboxes at the same time is via UPnP.

Unfortunately a lot of routers including most Asus routers judging by the network hardware forums have poor UPnP support so the best you can get is open on one xbox and moderate on the other.

In this situation you would need to buy a new router that has confirmed multi-console support to get an open NAT on both xboxes at the same time.

Now things are really weird. One xbox is reporting strict, and the other is open. NO changes to the router.

Port range triggering seems to do nothing. I am now convinced the problem is in UPnP but am absolutely baffled that a newer high end router like the N66u cannot handle it.

As said above: you are supposed to ONLY enable UPnp. No triggering, no forwarding, no static IPs or ip reservations as all these prevent UPnp from working correctly.

    @BobMcFly247

It seems a bit unusual to me that static IPs would be interfering with this. Every single device on my network is either on a static IP or is far enough away from the default starting DHCP range that conflicts will not occur. Are you saying that assigning
a static IP to the console somehow interferes with UPnP?

As for port triggering, I disabled all of that a while ago. It had no effect one way or another. With port forwarding, I do need some ports forwarded for other services, but I have confirmed that none of them are overlapping with the ports listed in my original
    post.

Think that's still a potential source of the issue? I've emailed Asus with respect to the N66U and its ability to handle IDGP and UPnP.

We had that on certain routers that at least reserving IPs makes massive problems with UPnP. Not sure which ones that was, but if you do a search here you might find them. So that was just a suggestion to exclude all factors which may lead to errors.

    Some routers are the opposite.

My previous router which was a TP-Link WR841N had a problem where NATs would go strict after xbox had been switched off for a few hours.

The only way to fix this was to use address reservation.

My current router though which is a DLINK has not needed address reservation for UPnP to work perfectly.

Gee, Malacath this will be an endless theme for us I guess. Why can't the manufacturers just stick to some simple guidelines and get their stuff working properly?! -.-
