Multiple Xbox One Consoles - one game and one live membership on both consoles?

I can't seem to find the correct answer on this. I have contacted support twice this morning and the first time the guy said definitively "YES! You can do that" and the second person said "no you cannot" but she wasn't as confident.

Here is my question, I want to be able to play Destiny with my two kids. Do I need to buy separate copies for each of them with separate live memberships? The first support person said no. The second support person said yes.

Then I saw this video: This guy clearly has the same question/problem but specifically says he DOES NOT have to buy 2 live memberships and multiple copies of the games.

I have an Xbox One and a Live membership. I have 2 kids. I purchase everything and install everything with me logged in. I just bought Destiny mega pack on disk. I want to be able to play with my kids. I just bought a second Xbox One based on what the
first guy told me and installed it. But now that I have it setup, I keep getting the error about needing the disk. Is the physical disk the problem? If I had bought this digitally, would I be able to play it together with my kids? Can I just buy a used
disk? If so, why do the physical disks have less functionality than the digital copy?

This is so confusing and makes zero sense from a family point of view. I have thousands of dollars wrapped up in Xbox hardware, games, and memberships. If this is the case, this will be the last Xbox I buy.

    :)

  2. Live Gold on Xbox 360 and Xbox One?

    AtomicNebula,

The subscription works for both consoles. "A single Xbox Live Gold membership works across both Xbox One and Xbox 360 – your membership covers both. And you can log into a friend’s Xbox One and access all your downloadable games, preferences, and apps."

If on xbox one, can you not make the 2nd xbox one the 1st xbox one's home console and run them both off one membership?
    Am pretty sure you can.

    Hi Ultra,

This would work with the digital version of the game as long as you only have two profiles. However, if your two children have their own accounts that they wish to use to play the game, separate from your account that owns the game, you would need to buy
a second copy of the game.

For disc-based copies of games, you need to have the disc inserted in the console for the console to be able to play the game, hence why for disc games you will need one copy of the disc per console you wish to use.

I hope this helps, but definitely let us know if you have any further questions about this.

  5. A disc based game can only be played on one console at at time. You can certainly buy a used copy of the game, but for physical games the license is on the disc itself, so it must be in the drive to play.

A digital copy could theoretically be played on two consoles at a time - the owner's home console and the console the owner is currently logged in to. For three players, you'll need at least two copies of the game (but I'll throw in my personal feelings
that you should support the developers and buy a copy for each player that wants to play simultaneously, just as if you had disc copies).

Thanks for the replies. I will only every have 2 consoles, one for me and one for my kids. The three of us will never play online at the same time.

I finally got it figured out after a conversation with a Gamestop employee. The Microsoft Xbox support person was totally wrong but what both were missing were the disk vs. digital versions of the game. If I had bought the game digitally, I would have
been set. But I bought the disk version of the game, with digital codes for the DLC. So what I was able to do is buy a used copy of the game and since all the digital stuff transfers no problem, both my son and I are able to play online together at the same
    time.

The other thing that is key is what you mentioned, the account that bought the game CANNOT be the "home xbox". So he logs into the home xbox and I log into the other. The home xbox has the family share so everyone on it gets my games and my live membership.
At the same time, the games tied to me follow me to whatever xbox I log on to as well as the live membership.

    TLDR version

disk games require 2 discs but anything digital (DLCs) will transfer (I bought a $10 used vanilla destiny disk and all my DLCs work on both xboxs)

digital games you can just download.

live membership can be shared if the live owner is logged onto the NON-HOME xbox but that account exists on the HOME xbox. Kids use the HOME xbox.

    xbox live gold

If the son that has the xbox live gold membership signs in on an Xbox one console and adds his brother to the same console they both will have Xbox live gold. As long as they don't play at the same time this is the easiest way. They can be both be signed
in at the same time on the same Xbox One console and play with split screen on some games as well.

    Xbox live 2 connection.?

so my Xbox live has ran out and instead of paying for me and my bros is there a way that we can share one Xbox live membership on 2 separate accounts on two separate consoles ? Any help would be appreciated thanks.
If you are both on an Xbox One then the answer is yes. Simply set the account that has the Gold membership as Home on the second console and the membership will be shared to any other tags on that console. The same applies to games as well
