multiple controllers failed update and now no longer work

My son was complaining about his controllers not working, replaced batteries, and the light flashes on it. I connected both of them to the xbox (not at the same time) and it said that there was an update available. I proceeded to the update, and it failed/stopped
at 46%. now I cannot get either to work or be recognized by the console at all. This is two different controllers, same thing happened to both.

I have cycled power, etc.... is there a fix?

I don't want to have to go out and spend 60+ bucks for another controller that mayor may not do the same thing.

DESPERATE for help !

for anyone with controller issues, this popped up in tonight's preview update.
A fix to address an issue for users who find their controller will no longer connect via a wireless connection, and only works over USB. If this has occurred to you, after taking this system update, you will be able to connect your controller via a USB cable and wait a few seconds before unplugging it. This will recover your controller and you will be able to connect wirelessly. It is expected that subsequent controller firmware updates will fail. This will be addressed in a later system update.

 

xbox one headsets

okay also I have updated all 3 controllers to work with stereo headset adapter......now I get no chat sound out of the chat headset even if all other controllers are off. does the chat headset no longer function with the new update?????????

I'm sorry to hear about the issue. When you say you connected them to the console, did you connect them via USB cable or just turned them on normally? You'll want to try connecting the controller to the console via USB cable (make sure the batteries are
removed) and leave it alone for 5-10 minutes. That should hopefully essentially "reboot" your controller at which point, you can run it through the update process again.

If that doesn't work, you can always try
factory resetting the console (while keeping games and apps) and see if that helps. If that doesn't do it, you may need to replace the controllers.

yeah... connected them via usb cord, went through all of those suggestions before I posted, even let it sit for an entire day and nothing....so the only fix was to replace. two controllers with in two days... one is less than 9 months old and the other is
about a year old...
