Multiple consoles, one ADSL connection, open NAT?

2 Xbox Ones

Wired or Wireless (for each console): WIRED

Things you have tried: Consoles are now connected via bridging two ports, using SubPort function in router config.

Is UPnP Enabled? Yes/No/Unknown:Unable to find UPnP function in router config.

Do you have a NAT error? If so, what is your NAT type?:
Open, but disconnects regularily.

Sasktel tech support suggested swapping out our older PACE router modem for this one, claiming that it will allow two consoles to have open NAT.

I set up the 5168 and called ISP to register it. This tech support person basically told me that the previous tech support person was wrong.

He bridged the two ports on our router modem, essentially making them operate outside the firewall and unable to communicate with our home network.

This gives them both open NAT types, but I suspect it is also causing other unknown conflicts, resulting in both consoles being disconnected from Xbox Live.

I am looking for an alternate solution, as this one seems to just cause disconnects every session.

I doubt you will ever get it right using your isp's gateway (gateways are terrible for what you want to do ) give the gateway back to your isp then get a plain MODEM only and a cheap netgear router , with the netgear , UPNP should handle both consoles
with no issues ....

 

Apparently there's a chance I can do as you suggest and have tech support bridge their unit, bypassing their router function and only leave the modem function operating.

I'm going to have to look into this. Additional reading I've done on the subject seems to point the direction you're suggesting.

 

yes , your isp can bridge it , but you will still pay rent on a gateway each month....10 bucks a month most likely...
