Multiple accounts (accidentally!) - none works.

I've just recently started playing Xbox 360 as I got one on loan.

I have the following problem: I have basically 3 accounts but none of them seem to work. So, when I started the Xbox, I wanted to make a new account - my very first Xbox 360 account - or so I thought.

When I tried to complete the registration, the process broke down and I probably was not able to finish registration. However, when I restarted the console, my account WAS there. However, I cannot log onto the internet with it. I have the same issue as others
(check all the posts in the forum regarding problems connecting to Xbox live) but that is not the only issue.

So, I tried to check if the registration really worked by logging onto Xbox.com with the e-mail I gave. That worked but I am unsure if that really WAS the same account. Anyway, I am unable to sign into Xbox live with that account, so I tried to download
it the profile, as I wasnt even sure if the registration worked. Downloading the profile did NOT work.

So, I tried to download another profile: the one I have for my laptop with Windows on it. That was never used for games, but I knew I had it. Downloading that profile actually worked. Unlike the other profile it says "Xbox Live" above the nickname of the
profile.

1. Why does it say "Xbox Live" and the other profile does not?

2. Why can't I connect to Xbox Live with either one? (I do not have a gold account yet, but connecting to Xbox live should work anyway, right??)

3. Can I change nicknames? Because the profile I downloaded has the nickname PlayerXXXXXXXX(many numbers..), which really sucks..

Did you purchase something like in game currency you could have accidentally pressed multiple times? Also check http://account.microsoft.com and see if the transaction is listed twice there on your account.

 

1. I think the process broke down and you created an "offline" account. Signing into it, you might be able to convert it to a Gamertag (online account), but your Windows 10 account is now a Gamertag so it might be best to stick with that one.

2. Does even the Windows 10 one not work with Live?

3. Yes, you can change your Gamertag. The "Player" name suggest it was created on Windows 10, so you may have created a long time ago by opening an Xbox Live app on Windows 10 (or 8/8.1) a while ago. Why is that important? Gamertag changes are free for the
first 30 days. Go here to change it:
account.xbox.com/changegamertag If it's free, that means you only just created it when you downloaded it on Xbox 360; otherwise it will cost $10 (or local equivalent) to change.

I have a question of my own that might further complicate things:

This forum profile you're using - where has that name come from? Is that one of the ones you tried creating? What did you use to sign in? (Do *not* post the specific email address, just refer to it in reference to the other accounts you made or tried to
make.)

1. Yes , I agree. It looks like the process broke down. So, how can I change it to an Xbox live account? But I also agree that it might be best to stick to the other one.

2. No, that one does not work either. Error: 8015190A - there's more than one post on that in the other forum, but as you can see from my post this was not my only issue.

To answer your question: this one is a bit tricky as well! I tried to log on with the e-mail I used to open the account (the one that seems to be offline). I thought that worked but now that I think of it, I suppose I just opened another account online...
I'm really not sure anymore because this is all beyond me... why can't I just connect to the internet and SIMPLY PLAY (well, or at least go online) for christ's sake! If Sony manages, why cant Microsoft?

Anyway, I have an e-mail that asked me to verify the e-mail address. And I THINK what I thought at that moment was that this is to verify the account I TRIED to create earlier. But NOW I think I accidentally created an all NEW account with the e-mail address
I used earlier. And since, as you suggested, the registration was aborted earlier, this was able to work since the e-mail was not taken because of the abortion of the registration process.

The gamertag I have here is from the account with the e-mail I just talked about - obviously I could change that because that account is brandnew.

What I don't know now is if the (offline) account on the Xbox has anything to do with THIS account I'm using right now. What I CAN tell you is that I was unable to download a profile when I enter this e-mail address. Would you suggest to delete the offline
profile and try to download the profile here?

 

Oh and there's one more thing:

When I tried to open the account, I used GB as my location, as this IS where I'm currently located. The other account was opened in Germany. Does that make any difference? It should not, if you ask me, but who knows..

 

Okay, so you made a new profile here for the forums and were able to change the name (Gamertag) for it to what it displays here?

When you tried downloading a profile using the email address behind this forum account, was that before or after coming to the forums? If before, I would say try downloading the profile now using that email address. It looks like you successfully created
this account with a custom name and everything, so there's a good chance it would work on the console now.

Whether you delete the offline profile or leave it should not matter - as it's an offline profile, there's no email address attached to it, so it can happily reside on your console without affecting anything.

If you are still getting 8015190A there are some things we can try:

- Clear the system cache (support.xbox.com/.../clear-system-cache) three times in succession, then restart the console.

- Run a network connection test:

(The results of the test don't particularly matter, just the fact that it gets done.)

Now try connecting to Xbox Live again.

If it STILL won't work, run a check on the Xbox Enforcement Team's website of the console's serial number:
enforcement.xbox.com/.../consolecheck

This will see whether the console has a permanent device ban. While I don't think that's the problem, it's something I want to just rule out. Plus I really hope you were able to stop following instructions much earlier because something else already worked.

Responding to your addendum: location will affect certain other things, like downloading games and redeeming codes so you always want it to be correct, but you should still be able to download the profile itself, so I don't have reason to believe it's causing
this current issue.

 

Alright, so downloading the account that is connected to THIS account I'm using right now DID work now! (Did not work earlier!). This looks very good. I'm checking everything out right now. I'll be in touch

Fantastic! That's great to hear.

The offline profile doesn't really count as once you delete it from the console it's gone forever, whereas the other two are backed up to Xbox Live and can be redownloaded by you on any console at any time. The offline profile literally only exists locally,
while the others are online accounts.
