Multiplayer Only

Does anyone else think that this is a bad idea?? I bought Titan Fall an I really dislike it, I wish there was a single player in titan fall so I can at least practice or get something out of it, the ONLY games that should be Multiplayer only is games like
call of duty & Battlefield, I have a suspicion that "Division" will be a Multiplayer only an I do not like this idea, even the elder scrolls online, very bad idea, imo.

Multiplayer only?

I bought an xbox a couple weeks ago (never owned a console before) and I'm interested in the Gears of War series. In reading about these games, it seems it's all about multiplayer, which really doesn't interest me. Can one person sit in his living room and
play Gears of War by himself? Are you restricted to playing only a portion of the game if you don't want to go online and compete with/against strangers?

I read on Wikipedia that this will be "multiplayer with single-player elements".
What do you think this means? I understand that you need to play online against other people but what do they mean single-player elements?

 

There's nothing wrong with it as long as people realize that the game will be dead when the community leaves or the system stops supporting it. I suggest never paying full price for online only it's just not worth 60.

Like UnyoBro said as long as you realize that there is an eventual end date for an online only game I dont see the issue really. Either you accept the fact its online only and buy the game or you just dont.

 

I think it's a terrible idea. This isn't a case of addition by subtraction. I'm no longer gold and I would have bought the game if it would've had a campaign but because it's MP online only, the game had zero options for someone like me. How many more sales
did Respawn lose for this very same reason. Incredibly stupid and short sided from a sales standpoint. Taking things away from your game is never a good idea. Campaign and no MP means everyone gets to play. MP and no campaign means you've cut your sales and
as a result, your profits in half.

 

If people are okay with single-palyer games, then they should be okay with mp-only games. I see no reason for something like team Fortress 2 needing a sp campaign nor do I care.

 

Online only and lack of single player content are somewhat a different thing.

MMOs actually have a pretty strong incentive for the single player. There is generally a whole world to explore, lore to learn, and a few battles that you can do by yourself. Of course then you can jump into guilds and team up for multiplayer battles if
you want to.

Games like Titanfall though offer nothing for the single player folk, where the whole game is geared toward player vs player. If it had a short single player campaign I might well have bought the title. I find the world of Titanfall to be interesting.

The difference between Titanfall and Team Fortress 2 is that while both have created great shooter expereince, the former has also taken time to create a great world around that. A world that people want to get to know but don't have the time to because they
are too busy dodging the opposing team.

 

This is what I fear is happening to Tom Clancy the Division CO-OP MP online only an NO single player, I really want this game,the only MP I like are games like Battlefield 4, to have a game like The Division MP only would be a shame, not everyone likes
this one mode only, at least BF & COD still cater to both.

 

I think whether a game should be single or multiplayer is largely subjective. In the end, it's ultimately up to the developer. That being said, I do believe Titanfall could have benefited more by having a larger, more robust, & cinematic single-player campaign.

 

Yes, it's a bad idea. But one thing such games may do well, is sell DLC.

You buy an "online only" game. What do you do? Play it! - Gets boring dying without having figured out where to go etc, but GS will only give you $20 trade in for it, so what's gamers to do?

"Oh, DLC may make it more enjoyable." So... Spend, spend, spend.

Not gonna do it!

 

Online only is a way for developers to save money. They don't have a story/cinematics and all things that come with those to invest in... personally I thinks it's bogus but unfortunately that is the direction the wind is blowing or sucking depending on your
perspective.

 

I agree, Titanfall having a campaign would have pushed into "must buy", instead of "if there's a sale before online dies I'll buy it". Brink tried to do that online only thing, but still gave you bots to play against. Titanfall could easily add in a bot
option when the online starts to die. In general, online only games will tend to get a redbox rental for a few days, then that's it. Titanfall would be my first online only game that I've bought after a rental.

 

Titanatars? ... Titanbots ... like Forza 5 where it is a reasonable facsimile of your friends and the longer you played the more it learned about your game play?

 

If Titanfall had a single player mode, it wouldn't have released last March. And EA was getting impatient.

Respawn had to meet their deadline and, unfortunately, the single player went to the chopping block.
