Muffled headset audio

Recently, i have been having difficulties relating to my headset putting out poor audio, primarily when i play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. I think that would be mainly because i am most familiar with the standard audio in that game, as its sort of engrained
in my head. I have read other forum posts about issues like this, with many people say that their audio is "cracking" or "popping". However, mine sounds more like my ears have water in them that causes the audio to sound really cheap and sort of painful to
listen to.

I have different controllers and headsets (that i have tested on other devices as well, they work perfectly) that i have tried, all giving the same effect, making me believe that this is a console-side issue. I have tried both power cycling my console and
resetting it to factory settings while keeping my apps. Nothing seems to work.

If anybody could help, even slightly, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

some Internet providers have reduced bandwith lately to optimize general access to their services. It can translate to a lower quality (under water like or metalic) sound. Is that your case?

BTW, try to test the sound wired to the console and unwired:

- If sound is worse while wired, it can be caused by poorly or not grounded connection. Try to connect your console in another wall plug.

- If sound is worse while wireless, it can be caused by interferences with other devices, low power batteries, being too far from the console, objects interfering...

Please, try these and tell us if it works for you.

Might there be a problem with your headphone jack?

Just got new headphones recently as well as a new controller so I dont believe either of those are the source of the problem.

Hello, ya I feel your pain. Try,if you haven't already, go into settings, then go to console accessories I believe it is then click on controller. Make sure your controller is plugged into the front USB port then check and see if it needs an update.
If it says no you don't need one click update anyway just to make sure. It's worth a shot anyway. Good luck to you.

I’ll double check to be sure but my controller should be on the latest firmware update.

If you hadn’t mentioned the part about the two consoles having the same audio settings, but the two sound different, I would’ve said that maybe it’s the headset audio format. On a certain console update, the audio format was changed. It sounded really
strange, but I couldn’t figure out what it was, so I messed around with stuff, before eventually changing the headset format to “stereo uncompressed”. That fixed it. It sounded exactly like it did before the update changed it. So, I don’t know, maybe mess
with the headset audio format in the volume and audio output settings, see if that helps at all.
