MSFT making recovery of old Xbox Live account and gamertag impossible.

Im trying to recover an ancient xbox live account (2010). I have very little of the required information requested by the account recovery team. Microsofts online help has been very curt and even attempted to lie to me to stop me from pursuing the revivification
of my old account. They told me it was expired from lack of use for last 6 years. I asked them to verify that that was actually a possibility, and they couldnt....customer support??? hardly! Any advice for someone determined to recover his old account and
gamertag?

i dont have the xbox tied to the account

i dont have access to the email address tied to acct because it was a .edu which expired

i DO have my username and password (remember the days when that was enough? :"(.....

You have done what you can. And yes MS did at one time annoucement the purging gts that been inactive. Idk how long ago that was. But there is more you can do. Why wait til now?

I had the issue of losing my old gamertag when I switched from Xbox to Xbox360. This was several years ago now. MSFT refused to do anything after several requests so I stopped paying for Xbox Live.

I was just about to buy a PS4 but thought I'd check my old gamertag. Guess what? It is available! They seem to have released the old gamertags!

Unfortunately MSFT want me to pay to get my old gamertag back. The site says you get one change for free. All I wanted was to get my old tag back. I was forced to get a new tag because of what I believe to be a MSFT database issue.

It's a shame since I wanted to stay loyal to Xbox.

Back to looking at that PS4 purchase...

I have a similar problem... I don't remember any of the infos about my xbox live account linked to my (very old) gamertag. So it seems impossible to link my old gamertag to my new account, with BTW a ridiculous gamertag and no success, points or rep... Thank
you microsoft, I will never buy anything froom you again...

so when you got your new console did you do a recovery for your gamertag on the new console or did you just transfer it? what if i had my xbox live account on my new and old xbox would the account work on both systems?

Sorry to hear it. First off, you should never post personal information regarding other people on the forums regardless as to whether they are living or dead.

This issue is caused when someone uses an email address that does not belong to them and can be a big hassle for those that do as there is nothing that anyone here can do to help.
