How it is possible to have MS game name without numbers?

I am sheriff8837 .. i understand its to make a unique name, but what its visible everywhere?

I have friend whos name is Lukas .. just Lukas .. dont tell me there is only 1 lukas ..

I can find lots of very common names that has no numbers ..

what makes them so special?

You have to choose a name no one else has and that doesn't have any special characters.

Your friend may have made his gamertag prior to the gamertag policy changing so he would have been the only one with that gamertag at that time which is why he doesn't have a suffix.

With or without numbers.

It will appear in all purchases at it is part of your name, but when in games it should only show your name without the numbers

no guarantee that the gamertag will release at all, it may or may not, there is no way of knowing, also changing your current tag with the numbers to the one without wont work as it will state your name is already that name as it does not take the numbers into account.

The numbers are added wherever the name was already chosen, and you can't change it again without paying.
