MS account, child grows up, gamer tag

I think i know the answer but would like it confirmed so i can decide next steps.

i have a MS account and use the email, office subscription etc. When my nkw adult son got an xbkx we used my email to log in. We did not know that it was all joined up; it just seemed sensible.

Now however he still uses it, has achievments, progress etc and refuses to create a new account to start over.

This means he could access my emails etc. Ge has also accidentally bought stuff on my card, locked me out by adding verification etc.

is there really no fix MS have come up with to allow transfer of the Xbox log in/gamertag? I know from google im not the only parent to have done this.

i know about alias etx. That doesnt fix the problem.

You cant transfer gamertag names, achievements etc. You can though, log in the Microsoft account and change the email to a new one, choosing it as primary email and removing your email from that Xbox account. The purchases, gamertag and everything remain
but your email is not linked with it anymore. So when your son will log in to his xbox account he will use his new email and not yours.

You will still have your email as usual, it just won't be associated anymore with that xbox account. I have done this multiple times before when buying xbox accounts from other people, it works fine and it's absolutely safe don't worry!

what happens to my current email?

so i go in, set a new email as primary.

if i then remove my existing email does that MS account vanish? I cant lose all my saved email, docs, skype contacts etc

Changing your ms account on your gamer tag doesn't make it an adult account if it was a child account to begin with

You need to wait till the gamer tag turns 18

Thanks for the quick reply.

He actually has a child account, but his 'gamer tag' is associated with my account. From what I have researched, you cannot move a gamer tag to a child account on an Xbox One. If that is not correct, any references to how to do it would be greatly appreciated.
If it matters, and I know it does for Xbox 360, I have an Office 365 subscription on my MS account. On a 360, that prevents moving gamer tags.
