I have a few videos that I am able to watch on my windows 10 device using the tv & movie app. When I connect my external hard drive with those videos up to my xbox it says they are 0 seconds long and throw an x80070001 error. Has anyone seen this problem
before? Any advice on how to get my videos to play on my xbox?

    :)

Does the xbox play mp4 and avi files.

The official website says that Xbox 360 does support MP4 video files.

Does the xbox play mp4 and avi files.

Though MP4 is claimed to be supported by Xbox 360, sometimes we still run in to difficulties to play MP4 on Xbox 360.

You may try to change the extension name from .mp4 to .wmv but I cannot ensure this action can solve the MP4 playback problem.

If you are still in trouble, you can convert your MP4 files to WMV or MP4.

    problems locating media update

with mp4 you need to becareful which codec you use and yes there is multiple versions of mp4

not all versions are compatible sony ps3 mp4 won't work on lets say zune or iphone for example also resolution does play into it too

your best bet is to use an encoder like super@ and convert it to a generic mp4

    or xbox formated wmv
