Moving things to External Hard Drive (post-August Update)

Can anyone advise how I can move games from my Internal Drive to my External Drive post-update (it used to be soooo easy.)

I have tried the Manage Games option but it is no longer there... and despite my external drive being the default install location I still have some digital games installing to the puny internal drive..

So since the new update, I seem to have lost the ability to move games from my Xbox one to my external hard drive, the option just isn't there, Can anyone help me?

Hey there!

Hmm. Couple things that you can try here. First, have you unplugged your external and plugged it back in to see if that works? If not, try that first. Also try the other USB ports on your console. If that doesn't work, next thing I'd recommend is unplugging
your external HDD, then
power cycling your console. This can often fix a lot of weird things that pop up.

Hopefully one of those steps work for you but let us know if not!

Go to Settings, System, Storage then move along to manage storage then view contents and you will see your games press start on what game you want to move then go to manage game and you get the option to move to external hard drive

Hello Vash,

Thank you for keeping us updated. There are some instances in which games on an external hard drive do not receive updates. We recommend moving around some of the games on the internal and external hard drives. Since your internal hard drive is full, you
can move some of them to the external hard drive. Once the internal hard drive has some extra space, we suggest moving some of the games from the external hard drive to the internal. Check to see if those games require any updates. Be sure to let us know the
results!

I know there are a lot of posts but let me re-summarize.

Hard drive was working with everything.

Xbox updated.

External Hard Drive allows Apps to install no issue, but games will not install or be moved to the External Hard Drive.

Games that were on the external drive still work but are no longer able to update and as such error out when attempting to play.

Given hardware did not change and is still in working order as evidenced by being read and installing Apps (small sized files compared to games), the only thing that changed was software (the update).

Some users report certain external hard drive enclosures work still ($7.99 on Amazon) but previous ones stopped. This tells me there is a driver incompatibility or a soft block on certain external device enclosures.

checking for any console updates. Do you also have games installed on your internal hard drive, or are they all on the external hard drive. We recommend moving the game from the external hard drive to the internal. You will want to check for any updates
to the game after it is on the internal hard drive. If an update is necessary and is completed, we suggest moving it to the external hard drive and trying to launch it again. Be sure to let us know the results DemoChao!

I appreciate the update, Ayden. Do you happen to have an external hard drive plugged into your console? A corrupted hard drive may cause these issues so please if these games are stored on your External hard drive, move them to your Internal storage and then unplug the external hard drive to test it out.
