Moving my XBox gamertag to my primary account

I'm trying to move my wife's primary gamertag to her primary Microsoft Account. I'm starting with this configuration

• Primary MSA -- Unused gamertag
• Secondary MSA -- Primary gamertag

and want to end with

• Primary MSA - Primary gamertag
• Secondary MSA -- Unused gamertag

From reading the instructions and forums looks like I need a temporary account and deal with a 30 day cooldown period, so I go open a temporary MSA and get to work. When following the instructions at xbox.com/AccountSwap to move "Unused gamertag" to "Temporary
MSA" I get the following error:

Sorry, we can't change your Microsoft account right now. For more info, go to Xbox.com/AccountSwap

(which is probably the least useful error message ever given that it's where I started) so I start a chat with customer support.

After 45 minutes of identifying myself, confirming ownership of the accounts, going down dead ends (I'm sent a link to a page for adding new aliases to my MSA, that's not what I'm asking for, really), and repeating the process two more times with the same
results, the support agent suggests adding the primary account as an alias to the secondary, then making it the main email address instead of an alias. This sounds dangerous (as in "all my emails will be stuck in an account no longer associated with my primary
email address") and I'm running out of patience so I ask to end the chat and continue at a later date. For this I'm given a ticket number.

Wanting to confirm that final suggestion will work I open a couple of throwaway accounts and try it. Turns out it's not as dangerous as I suspected. The system (correctly) prevents adding an existing account as an alias, so the final suggestion I got is
another waste of time.

At this point I don't feel confident that starting another support chat will work, so I'm asking the forum, how do I get in touch with a knowledgeable agent that can actually diagnose and troubleshoot the issue? What other information can I collect to help
with this? And mostly, is there any way I can accomplish what I stated at the beginning of the post before I lose the remaining hair on my head?

Delete a Gamertag from my Live ID

Hi,

I recently created a new Live ID using my primary email address that I plan to keep as my primary email from an obsolete email from many years ago. In the process of trying to figure out how to move my existing gamertag over to this new account, I accidentally created
an auto-generated gamertag on my account. Now I am having trouble moving over my primary gamertag to this new Live ID because it is already associated with this auto-generated one. How can I delete this auto-generated gamertag from my account so I can bring
over my primary one?

transfer Xbox purchases between account.

I have two Xbox gamertag accounts on my console. My first gamer tag (primary) is the one that i have used since Xbox 360 launch with Xbox Live. The second, is just recently created. I purchased Call of Duty Ghost on my second gamertag account on the console.
Can i play Call of Duty Ghost on my primary gamertag, or do i have to sign out of my second account, sign in to my primary and download again?

are there currently any funds on the account? Since that can cause issues when trying to move the account.

And when was the last time the account you want to switch downloaded to the console the last time, since the xbox live account will need to be on a console for at least 30 days before it can be moved.

No, there aren't any funds in any of the accounts. Nor any subscriptions (we are planning to sign up for Office 365, luckily I read the page before that). The secondary account was just downloaded to the Xbox, that was pretty much only used for Wordament
on the phone. This may be the problem, I'd love to see official confirmation because waiting for a month and then still being broken would be annoying to say the least.

The following is specified at the conditions for the current Microsoft Account

"The gamertag has not been moved within the last 30 days. If you try to move a gamertag before 30 days have passed since the last time you moved it, you’ll get the error “Sorry, we can't change your Microsoft account right now."

So if the account was only downloaded to the console a few days ago, that most likely is the cause why you can't move the profile to a different Microsoft Account at this moment.

 

Let us know the results what happens after the 30 days wait time.
