Moving Gamertag To Another Account

I have an old Microsoft account with my Gamertag on it and want to use that Gamertag on my newer Hotmail account. I understand that there is no way to merge accounts or swap details, so I have changed my gamertag to some random characters to free up the one I want to keep so I can claim it on my Hotmail account.

It has been a week but when I search for the gamertag is shows it as available for the old 360 account types, but I get #0000 after it for XBox One console and apps. Originally it didn't have that as the name is rather unique and not used by anyone else. (I'm trying to upload a picture to show what I mean but it keeps saying it failed).

So do I just have to wait for the system to refresh itself or something for my to get it for the XBox One account without the #0000 at the end? How long does that take?

I didn't want to do it, but Microsoft don't have any other way of moving the tag unfortunately.

The name is very unique and I have it on every website and app you can think of due to its uniqueness. It was showing as available on the old account up to yesterday so I could have switched back to it if I wanted, but I want it on my new account, not the old one.

Surely if someone claimed it, it wouldn't be available as a 360 gamertag and would be taken for both?

I was finally able to upload a picture so show what I mean.

I never suggest abandoning any gamertag to try to move it to another account as there are bots out there waiting to snipe

You will not be able to, if your Gamertag is associated with another account it cannot be moved to another account.

You can contact support and they will help you possibly move your name over, but there is a charge per account to changing your Gamertag.

It is not possible to transfer a gamertag to another account.

The only "workaround" is to pay the gamertag change fee twice: first fee to release your gamertag from your first account, and second fee to have your other account take the gamertag back.

Evén though there is a fee I would like to try the solution above. Do You know how its done?
