Moving gamertag to a different microsoft account

this is my first question on the forum,i tried to find an answer but i just couldnt find what i was looking for.

okay so i want to move my gamertag which is associated to a email i dont use ( lets call it email#1), to my main email that i use daily(email#2) im gettimg a message saying that this email already has a gamertag associated with it, apparently when i logged
in to the appstore on my windows surface using my email#2 microsoft created a gamertag for me.

With that being said i read the instructions on how to move my gamertag and i created a 3rd email. THEN i moved the gamertag associatted with email#2 to email#3. I had to wait 30 days because it was the first time the gamertag from email#2 was being downloaded
to my xbox but other than that No problems.

After that i tried to move my gamertag from email#1 to email#2 but i get the same message saying that email#2 has an existing gamertag associated with it even though i just moved it to email#3. Does that mean i have to wait 30 days again? or what is going
    on? Thanks in advance.

    :)

Moving gamertag to a different microsoft account

    Hi there,

you are still using email#2 on your surface? Since using your surface while the gamertag was removed could result in a new one being created. If that is the case you will need to take those steps again (including the 30 day wait time)

Also be aware that the full process of moving a gamertag to a different email can take up to 24 hours.

So if you haven't waited 24 hours, please try that (and to be sure do not use your surface if that is still connected to email#2

    Hello WPAK,

No, I am no longer using email#2 on my surface, I removed everything that had to do with that email from my surface and switched to a local account.

I was not aware that the process could take 24 hours; after moving the gamertag from email#2 to email#3 I immediately tried to move my main gamertag (email#1) to email#2, maybe that was the problem.

Thanks for your time, I will try it again in 24 hours and let you know what was the result.

Make sure that email#2 is not logged in on any devices as a Microsoft Account except on your Xbox console as it may automatically generate a gamertag. After moving the gamertag under email#2, you can contact Xbox Support to check if there is no more gamertag
under email#2 so you can proceed moving gamertag under email#1 to email#2.

Moving gamertag to a different microsoft account

Hello guys thanks for your time,

I waited approximately 36 hours just to be sure that the process of changing my gamertag was done.

So I went ahead and tried to make the change (gamertag associated with email#1 to email#2, which was supposed to be free by now) and I got the same message "this email address is already associated with an xbox live account'. I couldn't believe. I signed
in to xbox.com with email#3 just to be sure the move had been done, and it was. That proved that email#2 was SUPPOSED to be free of any gamertags.

So I tried to make the change again (gamertag associated with email#1 to email#2) and I got this new message: “Sorry, we can't change your Microsoft account right now.” which, according to

    support.xbox.com/.../switch-gamertag-to-different-microsoft-account
, means I had previously moved the account; but I have not moved the gamertag from email#1!!!!

    Maybe its referring to email#2?

Both, email number 1 and 2 meet the 'Conditions that must be met before you can move your Xbox Live profile'

My advise is to contact Xbox Support, they should be able to see what could be causing this via
    support.xbox.com/contact-us

Also check if there still is currency on the account just tp be sure..

Thanks WPAK, I don't think currency has anything to do with this because although I have some cents in my account, when you swap your Microsoft account you get a warning that all funds in your account will be lost.

I will go ahead and contact xbox support

Ok, I've seen it cause problems in the past that's why I mentioned the currency part, but like you said it shouldn't be a problem anymore.

Please keep us updated after contacting Support Moving gamertag to a different microsoft account :)

Apparently WPAK you were right. It was the currency that was not letting me switch my gamer tag to a different Microsoft account. I contacted Xbox support and their advise was to buy something cheap in the avatar store (I bought a halo 3 odst Spartan laser
ring), and to use the split payment option and after doing that I was able to do the switch, no problems.

I don't know why Microsoft would put the message saying that you will lose all your money when you switch your gamer tag's Microsoft account if they don't even allow you to do the switch if you have currency in your account.

You were right WPAK it was the currency that wasn't letting me do the change. After contacting Xbox support I was advised to do a chap purchase (I bought a halo ODST Spartan laser ring) and to choose the split payment option. Then I was able to do the switch.

I don't know why Microsoft would put that message saying that you will lose all your currency after the switch if they don't allow you to do the switch if you have currency in your account in the first place.

How do I delete the gamertag Microsoft have given me?

    Hi there,

the only way to achieve that is to move that 'generated' Gamertag to a different Microsoft Account.

    In steps:

    1. download that 'generated' Gamertag to the xbox console

    2. wait 30 days (A profile can only be moved to a different Microsoft account when it has been for 30 days on a console)

    3. move the 'generated' Gamertag to a different Microsoft account

    4. move your gamerprofile to the just freed up Microsoft Account

    -

To download a profile see this link:

To Switch a gamertag to a different Microsoft Account see this link:

move gamertag to different Microsoft account?!?!

it is still possible to do, but would be a pain.

you would have to sign into the account with the email that you "want" to use for your account at
https://login.live.com and then close it out, by clicking on security and password (you might get prompted to verify and email or phone number) then scrolling to the bottome and clicking close account, follow
those prompts. due to the email that you want to use is an outlook, which is Microsoft controlled, you will then need to close all that out and sign into your email. it takes 60 days to completely close the Microsoft account attached to that email. once it
has closed, you can then try to use it to do the swap.

NOTE: If you have purchased anything under the gamertag that is associated with the outlook Microsoft account, you will loose it. there is no way to merge accounts to keep that stuff.

move gamertag to different Microsoft account?!?!

    Hey HowTheFind

Unfortunately there is not an option on the Xbox One to move a gamertag from one Microsoft account to another, however this is an option to do so on a Xbox 360. If you have one available you can check out this link and learn how to move it.

    support.xbox.com/.../switch-gamertag-to-different-microsoft-account

Otherwise you would need to contact official support and see if they can do anything to help you out with moving your gamertag to that other MSA

The 30 day time limit may apply because of other factors, such as recent password changes on the old account, or if the old account has been recently downloaded to the console, or if the billing information has recently been changed. Any significant change
of circumstances for the old account can trigger a 30 day waiting period for any Microsoft Account email changes.
