Moving Gamertag between accounts

Hi All,

At the moment, I have two Xbox Live accounts, one that I had on my old 360 many years ago, and the one that I currently use on my Xbox One. The reason for having two accounts is that it took me several weeks after purchasing the Xbox One to remember
the old account's e-mail address, and I've made purchases and linked games to the new account in the meantime........Anyhoo, since I've now got access to the old account, I would wish to move the Gamertag over to the new account on my Xbox One. For relevent
info, the old account contains no purchases on it (I never bought a gold subscription, whereas the new account does have a gold subscription against it)

I've discovered the following set of instructions at:

This should allow me to move the Gamertag over to my Xbox One account, but before I do so, I'm just wanting to clarify a couple of points:

1) Will this affect any digital purchases I have on my destination account on the Xbox One?

2) Will this affect my friends list?

3) Will this affect any game saves I have on the destination account?

Or is everything above linked to the underlying Live ID, which will remain the same account on the Xbox One?

I know there is an option to pay to change the gamertag, which would simplify things a lot, but I'm lead to believe that even although I change the old account's gamertag to something else, I cannot then change the new account's gamertag to the old gamertag,
as the gamertag cannot be reused in this way.....

Lastly, I'm really not bothered about achievements and the like, as long as the save games are there (Although, in saying that, I hope I don't have to start at gen 1 on Titanfall all over again by doing the above!)

Have had my 360 for years, finally upgraded and got the Xbox 1 S. I have my profile downloaded off the Xbox 360ona flash drive but it cant figure out how to upload it on the new console. I want to keep my gamertag and achievements, please help.

All you need to do is log in on your Xbox One with the same email address and password as the account on your 360. You'll log right into your account.

 

The steps you're listing above will only switch the Live ID between the two accounts, but the accounts will basically remain the same. If you're wanting to use just the old gamertag on the new account, you would have to pay to change the name on the old
account, then use it on the new account. Once you change a gamertag, it does get freed up in the system to be reused. However, it may not happen instantly (I've heard it can take anywhere from 24 hours to 45 days) and it is possible someone else could grab
the tag before you have a chance to use it on the second account.

 

Thank you very much for clearing this up for me. I did think that it wasn't the right answer to my question, but that's what the online MS rep recommended.

I've started the process by deleting my old microsoft account, which should free up the gamertag once this completes in 60 days. I'll keep an eye on things and hopefully pick up the old gamertag with just once single payment instead of the two.
