Moving a gamer tag associated with an email to a new email that already has a profile.

I would like to move a Gamertag associated with an email that I do not use to another email that already has an xbox live profile on it. I have found there to be two methods for this:

1.Making a new microsoft account that does not have a profile yet and moving the unwanted gamer tag associated with the email I want to use over and then having to wait 30 days to move the gamer tag that I want over to the email that I want it to be associated
    with.

    2. Creating an Alias on the email that I want and making that alias primary so that I can remove the email that I want from it and use that email as an alias for the gamer tag that I want. Wait period is about a week or so?

With these two methods which one would be better or are they both the same? I have been told that creating an alias might lead me to some problems, not sure how though. If I could get some feedback on which method I shouldn't use and why, that would be great.
    Thanks in advance!

    :)

Associating a Profile with a GamerTag

I recently purchased a family pack and wanted to take a current profile and then associate it with an email address that has a temporary gamer tag associated with it. Unfortunately when I tried to set it up I associated the windows live ID with an xbox live
account from the web. So now I can recover the gamer tag but all of the information with the profile is not associated with the profile on the xbox 360. It appears I can just create a new windows live ID and have it work that way but I am trying to avoid
    creating another email account.

What would be ideal is to go to the profile and then be able to attach it to the windows live ID that is already set up. This profile has never joined XBox Live

    Email Issues

Hi, I'm having a similar issue.

I want to change the xbox live gamertag NHSolo associated with its current email
[REMOVED BY MODERATOR] to another email, that it says is associated with another gamer tag (the one used in this post )

I usually sign in as the previously mentioned NHSolo. Does that mean that the gamertag under the new email I want must also be a profile on my machine? There's only like 3 on there.

Alternately is there a way to just delete that profile, will that also free up the email from that gamer tag?

    Hello xDrCrash

I'm a bit disappointed that no one has responded to you by now. I would suggest that the best form of action would be to just make an alias. I have never had a problem with aliases and I've never seen any reports of many problems on using aliases themselves
    either.

The problem with using the other method swapping and waiting the 30 day security measure is simply more time consuming, not just because of the 30 days but in some instances if you download the profile on another console, or have to re-download your profile
to trouble shoot a problem aside from the initial 30 day waiting period those two can reset the counter which some people get a bit confused about when they feel they've waited out the 30 days.

Although the outcome is entirely up to you if I was in your situation I would just make an alias and (optional: mark the new one as the primary and delete the old alias, or just simply mark it as the primary)

Please note: That when an alias has been deleted you will have to wait approximately 30 days before it would be available to register again, please think carefully on what option you choose to use.

Thank you very much for your question on the forums and I would love a follow up to see how you got on.

Okay, I will go ahead and try to use an Alias to change my email. Currently I have to wait about a week since I changed my alias too many times, but I will post in about a week or so and say how it goes! Thank you Daniel!

How do I recover an active gamertag when the email has be deactivated?

Unfortunately, you are unable to just move a gamer tag only to a different email. The only thing you can do is change the email so the account is then tied to the new email, which will have the gamer tag tied to it. However, if the email you are wanting to use, already has a gamer tag associated to it. You will not be able to change the email.
