Movies & TV update/install causes router to restart.

Hey everybody, I'm hoping someone can give some advice on an issue I'm running into.

Since the latest system update (non-insider) any attempt to update the Movies & TV app causes my router to restart and disconnects all my devices. I also experienced the same problem with Groove Music but it eventually updated.

I uninstalled the Movies & TV app and now the same issue occurs when I try to install. It seems to be related to specific apps as I've had no issues installing other things like game DLC.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and has suggestions for a fix?

    :)

Halo 5 installation stopped 3% physical copy

Restart your modem, router, and xbox. decline the patch when the install starts. once the install is over you can get the patch.

New Xbox One System Update Goes Live Today

when you start your xbox it goes to a black screen with a lime green bar that grows from left to right as it downloads. if its left in a standby mode you will have to shut down and restart as described to install it. it will sit at the xbox green logo screen for a good few minutes why it installs. in total it took me 5-7 minutes from download to on user interface.

i got my update today... best way to get it is to hold the xbox button and turn off console and reboot from cold. i will say i had no issues with microsoft or smartglass so the update ill not feel any different.. i dont have kinect hoked up or use the tv function.

and suprisingly since i got a new wireless router"e3000 gaming" my stability and loss of connection has gone way down...

    Hey there xenotyro,

This isn't something we've seen before yet. What troubleshooting steps have you tried? Does the issue persist when using both wired or wireless network connections on the console?

Run a Detailed Network Statistics test on the Xbox One console and please provide the following information.

    • Download Speed
    • Upload Speed
    • Latency
    • Packet Loss %
    • Wireless Strength (if applicable)
    • Modem Manufacturer
    • Router Manufacturer (if being used) as well as the model number

That may give us a clue into what's going on.

    Hi there

Thanks for your response. It is a strange issue, all other app/game downloads and updates have been working correctly except Films & TV. So far I have power-cycled my Xbox One, reset my router, and used different wireless channels. Unfortunately I'm not
able to test a wired connection at the moment.

The detailed network stats show the following:

    • Download speed: 20.34Mbps
    • Upload speed: 1.87 Mbps
    • Latency: 164ms
    • Packet loss: 0%
    • Wireless strength: 100%

The wireless router is a Huawei HG633

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide.

  6. Thanks for the details,

The latency is a bit higher, but shouldn't be affecting something like this. Ideally we'd want to try a wired connection to see if that helps. Alternatively, have you attempted to uninstall the app and reinstall it as opposed to update it? Are you using
an external hard drive with the console as well?

    Let us know!

Hey again, thanks for getting back.

I can attempt a wired connection but it would require me to rearrange my flat or buy a longer cable which might be a little excessive in this case. Initially the problem was with updating the app so I uninstalled, and now I'm encountering the same issue when
attempting to install from the Store. The progress bar will show incredibly slow progress before abruptly stopping installation and causing my router to lose connection.

I don't have any external storage connected to my console and there is adequate space for the install. I'm not sure if there may be an issue related to the app/console region, in the store the app shows as Movies & TV in the search and then as Films & TV when
trying to download. I'm based in the UK so I would expect the latter.

    Thanks again!

Hmm, which country is your console set to currently as well as the language? I'd be curious to see if we're able to reproduce the same problem here. I'm assuming it's set to United Kingdom and English, but I wanted to be sure.

Hi, sorry for the delay in reply.

My console region is UK and the language is English as I'd expect. My best non-technical guess is that I recall being able to download free content in the Films & TV app during a sale that I later learned was supposed to be US only. I never attempted to watch
it which may have caused the region restrictions to kick in, and it doesn't show in the app on any of my other devices running Windows 10.

However, I experienced this same issue briefly with the Groove app on Xbox One after the latest OS update so it may not be related to region settings.

Thanks again for your help, its a perplexing one.

  10. No worries at all, we weren't able to reproduce the issue here unfortunately as it seems to be working okay for us. At this point it sounds like there is a network issue causing the problem and to really narrow it down we'd want to go wired directly to the
modem or try using another internet connection. That should narrow it down to really see the root cause. Have you also reached out to your ISP yet to have them run a check on the modem to make sure everything is in working order?

    Hey again

I got the chance to test with a wired connection after I experienced the same issue when the Blu-Ray app attempted to update.

I managed to update both apps over the wired connection although it was incredibly slow (showing ~200-500 KB/s). Unfortunately there was another update rolled out for Films & TV today which is still causing the same issue. I may contact my ISP although I've
had no problems downloading full titles and playing over Xbox Live.

  12. Thanks for checking,

Those speeds to seem really slow, so we'd advise you to check in with your ISP, just to have them run some tests and ensure everything is working properly.

Keep us posted on how it goes!

I've also been struggling with this for a bout a month or so. Using a wired connection isn't going to be the easiest task but I'll give it a go. I've seen quite a few people experiening fhis problem. You're ISP wouldn't be TalkTalk by any chance would it?

Yep, the ISP is TalkTalk... Using a wired connection works but its a drag to have to do it each time an app needs updating. I reset my console and reinstalled all my games (over WiFi) but the issue still persists. No idea what's causing it.
