Thanks for reaching out here in Xbox Forums. I understand there is a question in reference to renting movies on the Xbox Console.

  When you rent a movie through Movies & TV, it's available to you for 14 days. This 14-day countdown starts when you make the purchase. When you start playing the movie, another clock starts ticking: you have 24 hours to watch the movie as many times as you

  Let's say you rent a movie at 3:00 P.M. on June 1. If you start watching the movie at 8:00 P.M. on June 5, your rental period expires at 8:00 P.M. on June 6.
  

Note Unlike a movie that you buy, you must view a movie that you rent on the device you rented it for (for example, the Xbox 360 console, a computer, or a Windows Phone).

If your using Xbox movie app:

Note Unlike a movie that you buy, you must view a movie that you rent on the device you rented it for (for example, the Xbox 360 console, a computer, or a Windows Phone)

However I know Microsoft allowes you watch rented movies via a app called Movie Anywhere. If you purchase a movie on your account and if was produce by a movie studio they team up with>>>you can watch your rented movies there. I used this app in the past

Did you make this purchase through the Xbox movie app? If so, have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the app?

Ah that makes sense. The fact that that is a rule doesnt make sense though. But whatever I get it. Would be nice if that was explained ANYWHERE in regards to that error.

I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with a rented movie. If this movie is causing errors or freezing across different Xbox Live platforms, I would recommend contacting Xbox customer to report this issue with this specific movie since it could be
experiencing a technical issue while streaming. You can also go through network troubleshooting to rule that out if you are trying to access that movie using the same network at home.
